Overview AtkinsRéalis is growing and our Western Canadian Engineering group is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our growing Electrical Engineering team. In this role, you'll ensure the electrical scope of building projects is delivered to design intent, contract obligations, safety requirements, and code compliance. The role blends site presence with contract administration, coordinating among contractors, designers, and clients to keep quality, schedule, and cost on track.
This includes collaboration with a team of engineers, technologists, and technicians, leading the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems, while also providing technical guidance and mentorship. Technical knowledge of complex building electrical systems and experience in consulting engineering will set your application apart. Our Engineering Services team in Calgary is a dynamic and tight‑knit, servicing local projects while contributing to large national and international projects as part of distributed virtual project teams.
Our projects are varied and span National Defense, Transportation (Rail + Transit, Maintenance Facilities, Ports + Marines, Tunnels), Municipal, Federal (including Defense, Nuclear, Labs), Healthcare, Provincial, Light + Heavy Industrial, and Institutional industries across Canada and the United States. Your role Deliver the electrical system design, calculations, and systems in multi-disciplinary projects from preliminary design throughout the project lifecycle. Preparation of schematic design, design development, and construction documents (drawings and specifications) for electrical systems, including low- and medium-voltage distribution, lighting, power, grounding, fire alarm, communications, security, and control/signal systems. Review, understand and clearly communicate all relevant client requirements, provide design options and recommendations to meet those requirements.
Provide Project Management for electrical design mandates, lead meetings with clients, and attend site visits & investigations. Actively participate in, and document, meetings with clients, contractors and other consultants. Manage deliverables to meet financial targets and schedule.
Undertake Peer Reviews for quality control and quality assurance. Review and complete design calculations and construction documents. Demonstrate knowledge of codes, standards, construction means and methods related to electrical engineering to ensure designs are optimized for construction practices within the building's construction industry.
Co-ordinating with Utilities and Municipalities regarding incoming services. Independent review of shop drawings. Work with contractors to quickly resolve onsite issues and ensure contractor's conformance to design requirements.
Providing technical directions to junior designers and CAD operators. About You Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Canada.
LEED AP and PMP certification considered an asset. Minimum of 5-10 years relevant experience designing and leading teams in the design of building electrical systems, including demonstrable experience in the design and specifying of HV/LV power distribution, emergency power and UPS, grounding, lighting, lighting controls, emergency lighting, fire alarm, passive telecommunications, lightning protection, CCTV and access control systems, in the listed building types above. Demonstrated experience building and maintaining long term relationships with clients (i.e. understanding client objectives, anticipating and meeting client needs, growing business).
Experience leading a team of drafters & technologists, along with client management. Proven expert knowledge of applicable Electrical Safety codes, Canadian Building codes, & various codes in IEEE, CSA, & NFPA. Computer knowledge in: MS Office, AutoCAD, Revit management, Lighting, and/or distribution software.
Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit, and/or Bentley MicroStation software. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with employees, consultants, internal and external individuals and teams. Ability to work on several projects at one time.
