About the job:

The successful applicant will provide specialist technical support to ensure the effective operation, maintenance, and development of laboratory facilities at the Centre for Wireless Innovation, including PCB fabrication and high frequency test and measurement equipment. With the aim to support teaching, research, and development activities. Duties will involve the installation, testing, repair, calibration and modification of electronic equipment and systems. They will provide first-line technical support for diagnosing and resolving electronic and instrumentation-related faults, escalating specialist issues where appropriate.

About the person:

Candidates should clearly demonstrate on their application form how they meet the following criteria: -

  • Academic or vocational qualifications e.g. HND/HNC, NVQ Level 4, or Equivalent standard in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, or a related subject (lower qualifications may be considered if balanced by substantial relevant experience).
  • Evidence of technical knowledge and hands-on experience of:
    • Analogue and digital electronic systems;
    • Electronic fault finding and diagnostics;
    • Soldering and PCB assembly/rework; and
    • Use of electronic test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analysers, and signal generators.
  • Basic programming or scripting experience using Python, Matlab, C, or similar languages.
  • Experience using workshop hand tools, bench tools, and portable power tools for mechanical assembly, fabrication, or modification.
