Sunnyside Care Center - Sunnyside Care Center is actively looking for a Director of Nursing Services to join our team of healthcare professionals. As the Director of Nursing Services, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the nursing department and tasked with providing our residents with quality care. This position will assist the facility with maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, privacy, care, and cleanliness within the facility.

Previous experience as a Director of Nursing Services in a nursing home setting is preferred. The Director of Nursing Services (DNS) is the Chief Nursing Officer and assumes responsibility for nursing practice and care throughout the organization. Qualifications A registered professional nurse currently licensed in New York who possesses an appropriate level of education, training and experience to fulfill all requirements/duties of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities Assumes the responsibility of the Administrator in their absence, within the limits of authority delegated for those periods. Administer and coordinate facility projects as assigned by the Administrator. Participate in the development and implementation of the facility's goals, objectives, plans and policies for the provision of resident services.

Direct, guide, assist, coordinate, and control the activities of the Nursing Department in carrying out the facility's objectives and policies within the budget limitations, projections and approvals in a manner designed to improve the functioning of the department head, department and facility. Establish the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Department in accordance with the facility philosophy. Develop, implement and evaluate a facility wide plan for provision of nursing care.

Establish a program for professional standards based on structure, process and outcome approach. Direct the Nursing Team in using established standards as a base of operation for the Department of Nursing and all program development. Define, implement and maintain a system for determining requirements for nursing care.

Represent the Department of Nursing on administrative and clinical committees Organizes the Nursing Department to deliver nursing care according to established standards of practice and in compliance with State, Federal and Local regulations. Is accountable for the recruitment, selection, and retention of sufficient personnel qualified to implement the functions of the Nursing Department. Acts as a liaison with the Medical Director Assumes responsibility for implementing and evaluating a program of quality improvement in nursing.

Implements and maintains a system for determining requirements for nursing care to ensure that resident care is provided and effectively supervised on all shifts. Assumes responsibility for nursing staff adherence to requirement programs of clinical and managerial staff development, which includes orientation, in-service and continuing education. Meets with nursing personnel on a regular basis to plan, implement and evaluate nursing activities.

Participates with Senior administrative and medical staff leadership in facility wide quality improvement activities. Ensures competency-based performance appraisal for all members of the nursing staff are completed and conducted in accordance with personnel requirements. Assumes overall responsibility for developing, implementing, and evaluating a program of clinical and managerial staff development for professional/non-professional staff and nursing management team members, which comprehensively includes orientation, in-service, and continuing education.

Other Administrative Duties Is responsible for all facility administrative functions in the absence of the Administrator. Makes rounds and reviews correspondence, reports (internal and external) and other relevant documents to ascertain compliance with applicable State, Federal and Local regulations and reports finds to appropriate Department Head and Administrator. Develops and ensures accurate documentation in the resident medical record by all disciplines substantiating the highest level of resident care and appropriate case mix index and resultant reimbursement for all payor classes.

Ensures appropriate admissions to and discharges from the facility. Attends and participates in scheduled resident care meetings i.e., infection Control, Pharmacy, Quality Assessment and Improvement and Safety. Represents the Nursing Home in meetings with outside agencies, professional and community organizations, State Surveys and Investigators.

Authorizes purchases of equipment, supplies and services. Authorizes payments from Petty Cash and 'Accounts Payable. Performs other duties and functions as delegated by the Administrator.

Other Performance Factors Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time or personal days. Consistently reports to work on time and ready to work at the start of the shift. Always provides proper notification when late or absent.

Demonstrates reliability when on-call. Available to work overtime when necessary. Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.

Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need for direct supervision. Demonstrates willingness to take additional responsibilities when they can be assumed without adversely affecting the quality or quantity of work. Maintains the confidentiality of all resident, facility and/or physician related information.
