Design Engineer (Full‑time | Forrestfield, WA)

We are currently seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our Engineering team based at our Forrestfield Head Office.

About the Role

As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing innovative trailer and transport equipment solutions that meet both customer and Australian regulatory requirements.

Working closely with the Design Manager and wider Engineering team, you will be responsible for producing high‑quality designs, drawings and documentation while supporting production with technical expertise and driving continuous improvement across our product range.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving engineering challenges, designing practical solutions and seeing their work come to life on the workshop floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing and maintaining 3D models, engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation for BRE products
  • Developing custom trailer designs to meet customer and business requirements
  • Producing accurate engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
  • Managing engineering documentation within Autodesk Vault Professional
  • Performing strength calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs
  • Reviewing material selections to ensure compliance, availability and cost‑effectiveness
  • Designing with a strong focus on manufacturability, fabrication efficiency and quality
  • Working collaboratively with production teams to resolve technical queries and design challenges
  • Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders throughout the design and manufacturing process
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering department
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and applicable transport regulations
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Design Engineering role
  • Experience with 3D CAD modelling and engineering design
  • Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and strength calculations
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines
  • A continuous improvement mindset

Desirable

  • Experience within the road transport, trailer or heavy vehicle manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and state/federal transport regulations
  • Understanding of heavy vehicle design principles
  • Autodesk Inventor experience
  • Autodesk Vault Professional experience
  • Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting
  • Experience using Epicor ERP
