Job Title - Data Product Analyst (Azure Data Engineering & Analytics) Location - Edmonton, Alberta (Remote with Occasional Onsite Meetings) Employment Type - Contract Interview Mode: Virtual Interview About the Role The Client's Environment and Protected Areas (EPA) division is seeking an experienced Data Product Analyst to support the modernization and expansion of the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) . This role will focus on designing and delivering scalable, secure, analytics-ready data solutions that support regulatory oversight, compliance monitoring, geospatial modernization, and evidence-based decision-making. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in Azure Data Engineering, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Python/PySpark, ETL/ELT development, data governance, API integrations, cloud-native analytics, and enterprise data product development.

Key Responsibilities Azure Data Engineering & Platform Development β€’ Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance data architectures on Microsoft Azure supporting cloud-native and hybrid environments β€’ Build and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines using: – Azure Data Factory – Azure Databricks – Azure Synapse Analytics – Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 β€’ Develop robust ETL/ELT workflows using Python, PySpark, SQL, and Databricks notebooks Analytics & Data Product Development β€’ Design trusted, analytics-ready datasets supporting: – Operational Reporting – Power BI Dashboards – Self-Service Analytics – Data Science & Machine Learning Use Cases β€’ Develop semantic layers, data marts, and enterprise data products for modern reporting ecosystems β€’ Support data modeling, cleansing, transformation, enrichment, and advanced analytics initiatives Data Governance, Security & Compliance β€’ Implement metadata management, lineage tracking, data classification, and governance controls within Databricks-based platforms β€’ Ensure compliance with privacy and regulatory standards including FOIP and GDPR through: – Role-Based Access Controls – Encryption – Data Masking – Secure Authentication Frameworks β€’ Support Service Principals, Managed Identities, and secure pipeline integrations across Azure services Integration & API Development β€’ Integrate data from enterprise systems including: – ServiceNow – Geospatial Platforms – Cloud Data Services – Distributed Systems β€’ Build secure RESTful APIs supporting scalable data exchange and automation frameworks β€’ Support asynchronous integrations using message queuing technologies such as: – ActiveMQ – Azure Service Bus AI & Automation Enablement β€’ Utilize AI-assisted development tools for code generation, optimization, testing, monitoring, and workflow automation β€’ Leverage automation to improve pipeline reliability, scalability, and development efficiency Mandatory Skills & Qualifications β€’ Post-Secondary Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Computer Science or related field β€’ 10+ years of experience with Python (including PySpark) and SQL for enterprise-scale ETL/ELT workflows in cloud environments β€’ 10+ years of experience performing business requirement analysis related to data transformation, cleansing, and wrangling β€’ 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server including database design, optimization, and administration β€’ 10+ years of experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop software applications and enterprise data products Azure & Databricks Expertise β€’ 10+ years of experience building scalable data pipelines using: – Azure Databricks – Delta Lake – Workflows – Jobs & Notebooks – Cluster Management β€’ 8+ years of experience with Azure services including: – Azure Storage – Azure SQL – Azure Synapse Analytics – Azure Networking – Authentication & Security Services β€’ 8+ years of experience designing analytics-ready trusted datasets using: – Power BI – Synapse Analytics – Semantic Models – Data Products & Data Marts Governance, Integration & Automation β€’ 10+ years of experience using GitHub/Git for collaborative development and version control β€’ 10+ years of experience building secure RESTful APIs for scalable data exchange and automation β€’ 10+ years of experience with message queuing technologies such as ActiveMQ and Azure Service Bus β€’ 10+ years of experience in data governance, security, and metadata management within Databricks platforms β€’ 7+ years of experience integrating Azure Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Semantic Models) β€’ 7+ years of experience building scalable ETL pipelines and integrations using Talend technologies β€’ 5+ year of experience using AI tools for code generation, automation, and productivity enhancement in data engineering workflows β€’ 5+ year of experience integrating ServiceNow with Azure-based Data Management Platforms β€’ 5+ year of direct experience building data products within the Government of Alberta cloud environment Preferred Skills β€’ Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Lakehouse, and enterprise semantic modeling β€’ Experience supporting regulatory, environmental, or geospatial data modernization initiatives β€’ Exposure to machine learning enablement and AI-ready data platforms β€’ Experience supporting enterprise analytics ecosystems in public-sector environments Work Environment & Additional Details β€’ Primarily remote role within Alberta with onsite meetings in Edmonton as required (approximately 3–4 times per month) β€’ Work must be performed from within Canada β€’ Standard work schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:15 AM – 4:30
