Why this role exists : The Data Platform Manager provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for the Snowflake-based Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) and the broader data control plane. The role exists to ensure that Officeworks data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and high-performing, enabling the democratisation of data and the seamless integration of AI and machine learning capabilities. By managing complex delivery teams and vendor relationships, the role ensures that data remains a critical asset for self-serve analytics and enterprise-wide decision-making.

Where you will make a difference: In this role you will: Platform Ownership & Strategy: Own the Snowflake-based Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) and data control plane. Define and execute the roadmap for data ingestion, transformation, governance, and the enablement of AI, Analytics and Reporting. Drive the transition toward a self-serve analytics model and the democratization of data across Officeworks.

Operational Excellence & Performance: Manage SLAs, performance monitoring (including pro-active remediations), and capacity planning to ensure platform security, reliability and availability. Implement robust cost optimisation strategies across EDP/Snowflake and cloud providers (AWS/GCP). Oversee platform upgrades, security protocols, access management, and data lifecycle policies.

Contribute to DRP & BCP preparedness and execution (if required). Lead planning and execution to provide a high standard in data hygiene. Continuous Improvement & Process Transformation: Lead process improvement initiatives within the Data & AI team to enhance delivery velocity and operational efficiency.

Identify opportunities for automation in data workflows to reduce manual intervention and technical debt. Establish and maintain high standards for technical documentation and knowledge management. Delivery & Execution: Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, architects, and analysts to deliver against the enterprise data strategy.

Manage the integration of SAP BW -> Data Sphere transitions into the core data platform. Oversee vendor delivery and performance to ensure external partners align with Officeworks quality and security standards. Who you will be working with : Internal Technology Leaders: Partner with the Head of Analytics & Value Delivery and Enterprise Data Architect, to align platform capabilities with broader business strategies.

Data & Analytics Teams: Collaborate closely with AI specialists and Data Scientists to provide the infrastructure required for advanced analytics and AI applications. Cross-functional Business Leads: Work with functional leads across teams to understand data requirements and enable self-serve reporting. External Partners & Vendors: Manage relationships with technology partners and platform vendors to ensure high-quality service delivery and support.

What success looks like : Platform Reliability: The Enterprise Data Platform meets or exceeds agreed SLAs for availability and data freshness. Strategic Enablement: Successful delivery of the data roadmap, facilitating the seamless adoption of AI and advanced analytics tools. Cost Efficiency: Measurable optimisations in Snowflake and cloud infrastructure spend without compromising performance.

Operational Maturity: High standards of documentation and automated processes result in reduced incident resolution times and increased team productivity. Qualifications and work experience : Essential: Education: Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience in Data and Analytics, with at least 5 years in a significant people leadership role managing multi-disciplinary technical teams. Technical Mastery: Extensive experience owning and managing enterprise-scale data platforms, specifically Snowflake, on AWS or GCP environments.

Data Lifecycle Expertise: Proven track record in defining roadmaps for data ingestion, governance, and transformation in a complex corporate setting. Change & Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated ability to lead through technical transitions and influence senior stakeholders in a matrixed environment. Preferred: Advanced Qualifications: Post-graduate degree (e.g., Masters in Data Science or MBA) or advanced certifications in Cloud Architecture (Snowflake, AWS, or GCP).

Industry Experience: Experience within the Retail or FMCG industry, particularly supporting omnichannel data strategies. AI/ML Infrastructure: Familiarity with the infrastructure requirements for transitioning from traditional Machine Learning to Generative AI applications.
