Data Engineering & Insight Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead the design, build and operation of data platforms while delivering business-ready insights to support strategic decisions and improve performance. You will steer data engineering, analytics, and reporting to convert data into trusted, actionable outcomes for the organisation. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to align data platforms with the digital and innovation strategy, driving data-driven growth and efficiency.

This is a high-impact role with a strong emphasis on governance, delivery discipline and team leadership.

• Lead the design, development and ongoing management of the data architecture, including the data lake and environments
• Build robust, scalable data pipelines for timely ingestion, transformation and availability
• Maintain data integrity, governance, security and resilience across platforms
• Oversee performance and continuous improvement of the data environment
• Collaborate with technology/architecture to align with IT and digital strategy
• Develop business-ready data models and curated datasets for reporting/analysis
• Oversee production of reports/dashboards (primarily Power BI)
• Ensure insights are clear, relevant and tailored to business needs
• Promote a self-service data culture across the organisation
• Ensure consistency, accuracy and trust in reporting outputs
• Lead, develop and inspire a multidisciplinary data engineering and analytics team
• Foster accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
• Coach and develop technical and business understanding
• Ensure clear priorities, delivery discipline and high performance
• Engage with stakeholders to translate requirements into data solutions
• Deliver data and insight outputs on time, with quality and aligned to requirements
• Establish governance across data initiatives and manage workloads
• Drive continuous improvement in delivery processes/tools/methodologies
• Ensure regulatory, legal and internal governance compliance in data activities
• Maintain data quality, lineage and auditability
• Identify and escalate data-related risks and issues
• Contribute to strategic decisions as part of the DISA forum
• Support development and embedding of data governance policies

• Proven experience in data engineering, data platforms and analytics leadership
• Strong understanding of data lake architecture, ETL/ELT pipelines
• Experience in data modelling for reporting/analytics
• Proven track record delivering insights via Power BI
• Experience using Codex or similar AI-assisted coding tools
• Experience leading and developing technical teams in data/analytics
• Understanding of data governance, data quality and regulatory considerations in financial services (advantageous)
