Counsel - Financial Markets

A leading international law firm is seeking a Counsel to join its Financial Markets practice in Amsterdam. This is a senior fee earning role suited to a Dutch qualified lawyer with deep expertise in banking, capital markets, and financial regulation The successful candidate will advise a sophisticated client base of banks, asset managers, trading venues, fintechs, and corporates on complex cross-border transactions and regulatory matters

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on a broad range of financial markets work, including debt and equity capital markets, structured finance, derivatives, securitisation, and regulatory matters under Dutch and EU law including MiFID II, EMIR, CRR/CRD, MiCA, DORA, AIFMD, and UCITS
• Lead and support transactions from origination through to execution, working closely with Partners and cross-office teams
• Provide regulatory advice to clients dealing with the AFM and DNB, including licensing, authorisations, and ongoing compliance
• Draft, negotiate, and review complex finance and capital markets documentation
• Play a leading role in business development, building client relationships and contributing to the growth of the practice
• Supervise, mentor, and develop associates and junior lawyers within the team
• Monitor regulatory developments and contribute to client alerts, publications, and market insights

Candidate Profile

• Qualified Dutch lawyer with 7+ years of experience
• Strong technical expertise in financial markets, banking, capital markets, or financial regulatory law
• Proven ability to manage complex matters independently and maintain strong client relationships
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
• Fluency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken
• Commercially minded with an entrepreneurial approach to practice development
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across international teams
