Job Description

This is an early career contracts role with an established contractor delivering major energy and infrastructure construction projects across Australia. You will support the commercial team across drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and administering contracts on projects that are live on the ground, giving you exposure to how agreements hold up under real delivery pressure. The role spans the construction, energy, and infrastructure sectors and covers head contracts, subcontracts, and supply agreements.

It will suit a law graduate or junior contracts professional who wants broad commercial exposure early in their career and prefers project environments to private practice. You will learn directly from experienced commercial and delivery leaders within a business that holds a strong reputation among its clients and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with drafting and reviewing contracts, subcontracts, and supply agreements
  • Prepare contractual correspondence, notices, and supporting documentation
  • Support negotiations alongside senior commercial staff
  • Maintain contract registers, records, and reporting
  • Assist in administering variations and claims as they arise on projects
  • Help identify commercial and contractual risks and support how they are addressed in contract terms
  • Liaise with project, engineering, and procurement teams to gather inputs for contract documents
  • Support project teams with day to day contract queries and compliance
  • Contribute to improving templates, processes, and commercial documentation

Required Experience

  • 1 to 3 years in a contracts, commercial, paralegal, or graduate legal role
  • Some exposure to commercial or construction contracts through work, clerkships, or study
  • Strong drafting and written communication skills with close attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with technical and site based colleagues, not just other lawyers
  • Genuine interest in construction, energy, or infrastructure projects
  • Exposure to tenders or claims is a bonus but not expected

Qualifications

  • Law degree (LLB or JD) required
  • Admission to practice is not required
  • Postgraduate study in construction law or a related area is well regarded
