As our Compliance Engineer, you won’t just spot technical hurdles - you’ll drive solutions.
You will be part of the cross functional team tasked with delivering projects such as line extensions of existing products, or the addition of new skus such as accessories. As part of the team you will manage specific compliance strands of cross-functional deliverables. A confident communicator, working with departments across the business, you will ensure key stakeholders understand the impact of any regulatory and product compliance requirements across our product range.
This is an on-site role, requiring a physical presence a minimum of 4 days per week in office in Broxburn. It also requires the ability to travel to China and/or SE Asia 4-6 times per year. Key Responsibilities Implement and manage the certification process for assigned projects, ensuring products meet strict requirements for global markets.
Act as the primary point of contact/consultant to the project team in the areas of Chemical Compliance – Restricted Substances, tracking and collection of test reports to ensure compliance requirements are met. Collect and maintain test reports from suppliers against EU regulation and EU national differences, as well as US FDA and China GB standards for Food Contact Materials. Ensure product labelling and packaging regulatory requirements across all markets are met.
Apply all relevant technical standards (gas and electrical) properly, including gas appliance regulations, electrical safety, wireless/EMC certifications and functional safety principles. Plan 6–12 months ahead, aligning your work with department goals and keeping stakeholders informed. Solve functional problems independently on a week‑to‑week basis and adapt quickly to unforeseen circumstances.
Distill dense regulatory standards (e.g., IEC, EN, UL, FCC/IC, AS/NZS, GB) into clear engineering specifications and design inputs. Produce and maintain compliance declarations and product technical files, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements. Act as the vital link between Ooni and test labs; quality‑check and challenge work from external partners.
Assess data fairly to make well‑informed decisions, knowing when to seek support from senior members for decisions involving incomplete data. Navigate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), impulse, and transient voltage requirements as part of certification planning. What you’ll do Implement and manage the certification process for assigned projects, ensuring products meet strict requirements for global markets.

Essential Skills and Experience Electrical or firmware engineering experience with a track record of navigating consumer goods regulations.
Hands‑on experience with Root‑Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA / PFMEA). Ability to summarize complex information and present it confidently to an audience of peers or the immediate team. Proven ability to assess EMC, impulse, and transient voltage test results and coordinate retests with labs.
Awareness of functional safety principles (IEC 60730) sufficient to understand test reports and to raise non‑conformities to the subject matter expert. Working knowledge of key regulatory/compliance requirements common to our products – Regulatory, Labelling & Packaging, Cybersecurity and Gas & Electric Technical Standards across the EU, US, Australia and China. Nice to have Experience of managing compliance requirements within a heavily regulated industry, such as medical, automotive or aerospace.
Proactive understanding of upcoming digital and cybersecurity legislation (e.g., the EU Cyber Resilience Act effective Jan 2027) and its impact on product roadmaps. Why Ooni? Work for an employer that cares about your well‑being!
