Compliance Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Compliance Engineer to join our Fleet Performance team in Brisbane or Perth.

Reporting to - and working closely with - the Fleet Performance Manager and wider Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams, this technical role will support the safety, compliance, reliability and maintainability of Loram’s specialist rail maintenance fleet across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Duties include providing engineering advice, leading inspection and compliance assurance activities, supporting rollingstock registration and certification processes, reviewing engineering changes, managing technical risk assessments, supporting new-build and modification programs, and working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Loram’s assets meet applicable standards, regulatory requirements and customer expectations.

This role would suit an experienced engineer who enjoys working in a practical, regulated and operational environment, bringing strong technical judgement, clear documentation and a hands-on approach to engineering governance, compliance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide senior technical engineering advice to support the safe, compliant and reliable operation of Loram’s rollingstock, track machines and specialist fleet assets.
• Lead and document annual, network-mandated and compliance-related inspections, including preparation of clear technical reports and supporting evidence.
• Manage engineering inputs for rollingstock registration, Type of Certification, approvals, concessions and non-conformance processes.
• Review and support engineering changes, design modifications, component substitutions and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with internal, customer and regulatory requirements.
• Undertake engineering risk assessments and provide practical recommendations to support safe decision-making and continued operational access.
• Monitor fleet performance, reliability data and recurring technical issues to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
• Support root cause analysis, reliability improvement initiatives and technical investigations involving mechanical, electrical or systems-based faults.
• Maintain accurate and traceable engineering records, inspection documentation, standards, procedures and compliance evidence to support audit readiness.
• Act as a technical interface with network stakeholders, approval authorities, regulators, suppliers, customers and global engineering teams.
• Support compliance and regulatory alignment for fleet activity across Australia and emerging markets in the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

The successful candidate will ideally be an experienced technical engineer with a strong background in rollingstock, rail, mobile plant, heavy machinery or a similar regulated asset environment. You will be comfortable working with standards, approvals, technical risk and compliance documentation, while also being practical enough to support operational teams with clear advice and timely decision-making.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and at least 5 years’ experience in rollingstock engineering, inspection, compliance, maintenance, asset management or a comparable regulated environment will be important.

Experience with certification, approvals, engineering change, concessions, risk assessments, reliability improvement, technical reporting and stakeholder engagement will be highly regarded.

Registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and/or Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory.

Strong Microsoft Office skills, attention to detail, clear written communication and the ability to prepare professional technical reports will be important in this role. Familiarity with engineering systems such as IFS CMMS, CAD and reliability or asset management tools would also be highly regarded.

The ability to obtain and maintain required rail safety inductions, site access permits and relevant credentials is required.
