Company Accountant

We are seeking a hands-on Company Accountant to join our Brisbane-based construction business.

This role sits between a Senior Bookkeeper, Company Accountant and Management Accountant position. It would suit someone who is comfortable managing the day-to-day finance function while also preparing useful month-end reporting for management and shareholders.

You will be responsible for managing the company bookkeeper, finalising end-of-month costs, assisting with progress claims and accounts receivable, preparing balance sheet reporting, and helping ensure project costs are accurately captured and reported.

The role is well suited to someone with experience in construction, civil construction, subcontracting, project accounting or job-costing environments.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Managing, training and supporting the company bookkeeper


• Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable and bookkeeping processes


• Assisting with progress claims, client invoicing and accounts receivable follow-up


• Reviewing supplier and subcontractor invoices for correct job-cost allocation


• Finalising end-of-month project costs


• Preparing monthly management reports for directors and shareholders


• Preparing balance sheet reconciliations and balance sheet reporting


• Assisting with cashflow forecasting and short-term cash management


• Monitoring project costs, margins and cost-to-complete information


• Tracking retentions, accruals, prepayments and month-end adjustments


• Supporting BAS, IAS, payroll tax and superannuation compliance


• Assisting with payroll oversight where required


• Maintaining accurate records across Financial Systems


• Working with external accountants and advisors when required


• Improving finance processes, reporting templates and internal controls

The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping and accounting experience, good commercial awareness, and the ability to turn financial information into clear reporting for management.

Construction experience is highly preferred. Experience with Premier Construction Software, Xero, JobPac or similar accounting systems will be highly regarded.

An accounting, commerce or business degree is preferred, but not essential for the right person. CA/CPA qualifications are not required, but would also be highly regarded.
