Role Overview Coastal Engineering Specialist role at Dillon’s Coastal Engineering Group. Provide integrated solutions across Canada with a focus on coastal processes. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a passion for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Responsibilities Lead and manage coastal engineering projects, providing technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams. Develop specialized technical expertise in coastal erosion, protection, flooding assessments, port and harbour development, and shoreline management planning. Conduct advanced hydrotechnical assessments – wave transformation, storm surge modeling, and tidal analysis.

Coordinate and manage the coastal engineering components of diverse projects, from studies to large infrastructure developments. Develop and oversee field investigations, data collection, and monitoring programs. Liaise effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.

Learning and Development Commit to continuous self‑development and professional growth within coastal engineering. Provide technical direction, training recommendations, coaching, and mentorship to junior staff. Enhance Dillon’s reputation through active participation in relevant professional associations and committees.

Qualifications Undergraduate degree in civil, coastal engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college (Master’s preferred). 3+ years of professional experience, preferably in the consulting industry with a focus on coastal engineering projects. Valid driver’s licence. Professional engineering licence or ability to obtain one within one year.

Required Experience Robust working knowledge of coastal hydrodynamic and numerical modelling systems. Experience in project design or construction involving coastal structures, ecosystem restoration, and/or navigation and dredging. Working knowledge of design guidelines, codes, and standards related to coastal and marine engineering.

Ability to document basis of design and design development – data analysis, assumptions, calculations, and conclusions. Experience applying climate‑change considerations and sea‑level rise projections in design and planning. Experience with coastal risk assessments, including storm surge inundation mapping and vulnerability analysis.

Familiarity with scripting software such as Matlab or Python. Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of coastal, marine, and geotechnical engineers; coastal and ecological scientists; geomatics specialists; CAD drafters; and surveyors. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for report writing, presentations, and client interactions.

Flexibility to travel on short notice to meet project deadlines. Preferred Experience Construction inspection and contract administration for coastal projects. Professional experience with SFINCS (Super‑Fast INundation of CoastS).

Experience with other relevant coastal modelling software such as Delft3D, MIKE21, TELEMAC, or SWAN.
