Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team in the Chemotherapy Suite! The Chemotherapy Suite is situated at the top of Medical Day Care, Level 1, Gate 5B in the Brunel Building. The unit has 10 chemotherapy chairs and is the only area in the Trust where chemotherapy is given for cancer.

The unit caters for patients with a Haematological Malignancy such as Lymphoma, Leukaemia, Myelodysplasia and Myeloma. Chemotherapy is predominantly administered in the Chemo suite between the hours of 9 am‑5 pm as most treatments are given on an outpatient basis. Here within the Chemotherapy Suite, a wide range of chemotherapeutic agents are administered to patients receiving intravenous and/or oral chemotherapy and other anticancer therapies.

The role will allow the use of skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and administration of blood and blood products. There is also an expanding PICC line service for patients in the chemo suite. The post holder will have the opportunity to become competent in caring for sick patients within the chemotherapy setting, having knowledge of oncological emergencies and how to deal with them, knowing when to inform medical professionals and what can safely be dealt with in a nurse‑led environment.

Full training can be provided in house to achieve competency in handling and administering chemotherapy as per the Cytotoxic Policy. Main Duties of the Job The post holder will be designated on an occasional basis to take charge of the department in the absence of the supervisory sister or senior nurse. The post holder will work within and lead a clinical care team.

The post holder will take personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and will ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC code of Professional conduct. The post holder will be responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance and evaluation of patient care. The post holder will take responsibility for the supervision and guidance of other staff including health care assistants and students on a daily basis.

The post holder will actively contribute to the provision of a good learning environment by taking on the role of mentor/assessor for learners eg. Student nurses and support worker roles.
