Job Description
This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This is a learning-focused assistant position based in Vincent’s Tubbercurry, Co Sligo F91 VF90. You will be mentored alongside the manager and experience staff to develop key skills in retail operations and administration.
As part of your placement, you will be involved in the following:
- Trained on how to assist with staff rostering, creation and scheduling
- You will be trained in reconciliation and basic book keeping skills
- You will be supervised in sales tracking and performance analysis
- You will be helping with local marketing initiatives and promotional campaigns
- Trained in general administrative support and data entry
Role Description
FORMAL TRAINING - Structured learning opportunities provided during placement:
Induction & Onboarding- Overview of St Vincent de Paul’s mission and shop operations
- Health & Safety procedures
- Data Protection and confidentiality policies, GDPR updates
- Training in Customer Care, Shop Security, Cash handling & Social Media Policies
- Training on use of till and card machine operations
- Introduction to scheduling tools for staff rostering and daily action plans
- Basic accounting software (Agresso), Spreadsheets & financial tracking
- Training on how to produce posters and events
- Training in customer engagement strategies
- Training in the use of social media platforms for marketing
- Training on how to access local advertising opportunities
- Training in recognising trends both locally & nationally for sales initiatives
- Training in inventory management basics
- Supervision in reporting procedures and documentation standards
- Training on filing methods and mandatory records to be kept on site
- Training in how to complete risk assessments and daily, weekly & monthly reports
INFORMAL TRAINING - On the job learning and mentorship throughout the placement:
Shadowing experienced staff- Observing how rosters are built and adjusted
- Learning how accounts are reviewed and reconciled
- Observing the manager in their daily role carrying out specific duties
- Working alongside highly trained staff to gain new skills in each zone in the shop
- Creating draft rosters and reviewing them with supervisor
- Assisting with marketing ideas and seeing them implemented
- Assisting in events management
- Following strict confidentially guidelines
- Working alongside volunteers and staff in a supportive environment
- Learning communication problem-solving skills in real time
- Building good comradery with customers and team members
- Attending team workshops and training when required
