Overview Description SALARY: Starting from £45,500 per annum (Dependent on skills and experience) Application Deadline: 28 April 2026 Department: Executive Support Location: Cardiff/Edinburgh – This role will require weekly office presence in either Cardiff or Edinburgh Role Summary The Business Manager to the CEO acts as a trusted partner, right hand, and strategic connector across the organisation. This role blends high quality operational and administrative support with strong people leadership, ensuring the CEO’s time, priorities, and vision are translated effectively through the business. The Business Manager keeps teams aligned, creates cohesion, brings rhythm to the organisation, and enables the CEO to operate at maximum impact.
They are a natural galvaniser, able to build relationships quickly, read the room, and support teams to stay coordinated, informed, and connected. Key Responsibilities Executive Office Coordination & Administration Proactive diary and inbox management, ensuring the CEO’s time is aligned to strategic priorities. Preparing briefing packs, agendas, reports, and follow up actions for all meetings.
Acting as the first point of contact for the CEO, managing internal and external communication sensitively and professionally. Ensuring actions and decisions from CEO meetings are captured, delegated, monitored, and completed. Board & Leadership Governance Planning, coordinating, and delivering all Board and ExCo meetings, including agendas, papers, minutes, trackers, and forward schedules.
Ensuring governance requirements are met and that information flows smoothly between the CEO, Board members, and senior leadership teams. Providing quality assurance for reports, presentations, and briefing notes. Team Connection & Organisational Cohesion Acting as an extension of the CEO to maintain connection with teams, sense check morale, and understand emerging needs or pressures.
Bringing teams together around shared goals, values, and priorities, and identifying opportunities for improved collaboration. Ensuring alignment across functions by spotting gaps, bridging silos, and helping teams work as a cohesive unit. Supporting the CEO with internal communications to ensure consistent, clear messaging.
Forward Planning & Strategic Rhythm Owning and maintaining a forward looking Executive and Board calendar that supports planning, cadence, and delivery. Anticipating future needs of the CEO and organisation, preparing well in advance. Supporting progress of strategic initiatives by tracking deadlines, risks, dependencies, and key milestones.
Providing insight to the CEO on organisational themes, patterns, and opportunities to strengthen performance and culture. Relationship Management & Stakeholder Support Building trusted and credible relationships at all levels, from Board members to front line colleagues. Acting as a connector between the CEO and key stakeholders, ensuring clarity, alignment and understanding.
Supporting external relationships (investors, partners, regulators) where required. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills Ability to build trust quickly and maintain effective relationships at all levels Skilled at bringing people together, resolving tensions, and creating cohesion Confident communicator, verbal, written, and visual High discretion and sound judgement, especially when handling sensitive matters Exceptional prioritisation and time management skills Ability to manage complex and shifting schedules Highly organised with strong attention to detail Ability to anticipate needs and plan ahead Strong follow through and action tracking discipline Skilled in producing clear, concise board papers, briefings, and minutes Ability to identify risks, themes, and patterns across the business Ability to simplify complexity and create structure Awareness of business planning cycles and organisational strategy Knowledge of project and workflow management Basic financial literacy (budgets, forecasting, understanding financial papers) Knowledge of confidentiality, data handling and professional standards Familiarity with the sector (advantageous but not essential) Benefits Hybrid work structure with the option to work from home or in the office as needed. Fridays are allocated as ‘no meeting’ days to ensure down time at the end of the week. 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.
