Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to provide a comprehensive range of business analysis services for organizations with diverse business and technology needs. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, project teams, and technology partners to gather, analyze, document, and validate business requirements while supporting the delivery of effective technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis
- Provide comprehensive business analysis services across a variety of business and technology initiatives.
- Work with stakeholders and subject matter experts to gather, document, and analyze business requirements.
- Lead and conduct business analysis activities to assess business challenges and opportunities and document requirements to support solution delivery.
- Prepare and advise on business analysis policies, processes, best practices, and standards.
- Apply business process re-engineering concepts to support service improvements and cost-effective delivery approaches.
- Conduct business analysis throughout all project phases using appropriate levels of detail.
- Develop business strategies, business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and feasibility studies.
- Facilitate requirements gathering activities including workshops, interviews, and requirements sessions.
- Perform business modeling, use case modeling, data modeling, process mapping, data flow modeling, business rules definition, and non‑functional requirements analysis.
- Monitor project progress, identify and resolve issues, and provide status reporting to management and stakeholders.
- Develop performance measures and traceability matrices and conduct follow‑up evaluations.
Agile Delivery & Product Backlog Management
- Support project teams by proactively grooming and preparing upcoming work.
- Assemble requirements into clear and actionable user stories.
- Manage and refine Product Backlog Items and communicate changes to project leadership.
- Break epics into detailed user stories and define acceptance criteria.
- Ensure requirements are clearly documented and ready for development.
- Provide project teams with business context and strategic alignment.
- Maintain backlog integrity as the source of truth for delivery teams.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners and project stakeholders.
- Ensure decisions, dependencies, and discussions are properly documented within user stories.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Conduct stakeholder engagement activities and prepare supporting documentation including presentations and briefing materials.
- Explain complex technical analyses, recommendations, and options to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Establish effective working relationships with stakeholders, partners, project teams, and leadership.
- Support user testing activities, including planning, recruitment coordination, facilitation, documentation, and presentation of findings.
Required Qualifications
Core Skills
- Experience grooming requirements and preparing work for development teams.
- Strong experience writing and managing user stories.
- Experience managing and refining Product Backlog Items.
- Experience documenting requirements in clear and concise user story formats.
- Experience breaking epics into detailed stories and defining acceptance criteria.
- Advanced analytical, problem‑solving, and business analysis capabilities.
- Strong understanding of requirements management and backlog governance.
- Experience supporting user testing activities and presenting findings.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of business systems technologies.
- Knowledge of systems design, development, testing, implementation, and evaluation.
- Proficiency with SQL database querying.
- Knowledge of API design, integration, and technical requirements definition.
- Hands‑on experience using Azure DevOps for user story and backlog management.
- Experience leveraging AI tools for business analysis and requirements documentation.
Communication Skills
- Strong communication, consultation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Experience discussing client requirements and systems development options.
- Strong presentation and documentation skills.
- Experience preparing project reports, business cases, presentations, manuals, dashboards, and research summaries.
- Ability to build productive working relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.
Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and practices.
- Experience with business process mapping, business functional modeling, and business event modeling.
- Experience working within structured, object‑oriented, and Agile methodologies.
- Experience developing performance measures and evaluation frameworks.
- Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and standards.
Preferred Experience
- Experience within the public sector.
- Experience supporting education‑related environments.
- Experience using information retrieval tools and packages.
