Position: Building Maintenance Technician Reports to: Museum Facilities Director Location: 1601 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60614 The Opportunity The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for carrying out routine building maintenance tasks and assists with the reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of CHM mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic systems. Core Responsibilities • Respond to a variety of requests such as, but not limited to, hot/cold issues, general plumbing, light carpentry work, basic electrical (not requiring license), piping repairs,lighting issues, and minor leaks • Assist with all general repairs, preventive maintenance, and construction projects • Assist with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting • Assist or perform the duties associated with events to include meeting setups and tear downs and spaces returned to their normal state • Provide backup services for meeting room AV needs • Provide excellent customer service, responding to requests and emergencies promptly • Identify problems, make recommendations, and implement solutions • Maintain 24-hr availability for emergency calls • Work must be carried out in accordance with policies and procedures established for the facilities department • Other duties as assigned Reports To: Museum Facilities Director and works under the supervision of the Lead Building Maintenance Technician Schedule Tuesday – Saturday; 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Extra hours may be requested to cover special events Working Relationships The Building Maintenance Technician works as part of a team with the Facilities Director, Lead Building Maintenance Technician, and the Chief of Security to ensure the on-going proper physical operation of the museum’s buildings and to ensure that CHM achieves excellence in customer service.

This person works with staff throughout the museum to ensure that temperature, humidity, lighting, and other mechanical systems are running properly. The Building Maintenance Technician also works with outside mechanical contractors and vendors. Qualifications & Characteristics • High School diploma or GED • 3 years of experience working in facilities maintenance • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry • General knowledge of safe work practices & OSHA regulations and conducts self in line with same • Ability to work off-schedule evenings and weekends for coverage during extended hours of operation and for emergency situations • Superior customer service skills required Physical Requirements • Full manual dexterity in both hands and wrists, eye/hand coordination, manual (picking, pinching, holding, grasping), and wrist motion (repetitive flexion/rotation) • Ascend and descend ladders, lifts, and roofs, as well as work at heights from ladders,lifts, and roofs • Lift, carry, or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 35 pounds • Must have good mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with hand and power tools Pay Range The hourly pay for this role is $25-$35 per hour commensurate with experience.
