Job Description
The Assistant Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate and timely finance, payroll, and compliance functions. The role supports the integrity of financial records through reconciliations, payroll processing, statutory lodgements, and accounts administration. The position requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving abilities who can work autonomously and contribute to continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
Perform bank and general ledger reconciliations
Investigate and resolve account discrepancies
Assist with month-end and year-end processes
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
Process supplier invoices and payment runs
Resolve supplier queries promptly and professionally
Raise customer invoices and allocate receipts
Reconcile customer accounts and manage billing queries
Process payroll accurately and on time
Ensure compliance with relevant Award requirements, taxation, superannuation, and salary packaging arrangements.
Maintain employee payroll records and respond to payroll-related enquiries.
Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, PAYG, and other statutory returns.
Ensure compliance with ATO reporting and payment obligations.
Maintain accurate records to support all lodgements.
About you
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline
Experience in accounting and payroll in a not-for-profit environment
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Strong reconciliation and accounting skills
Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
High attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
Part Time .6 FTE (salary pro-rata)
