JOB SUMMARY Location: Stroger & Provident (Floats) Trauma Anesthesia. Shift: 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM rotating. Posting salary: $103,818 - $120,355.

Salary is commensurate with years of experience at the time of application. Experience not disclosed will not be considered for initial placement. RESPONSIBILITIES The APN-Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, in collaboration with an anesthesiologist, is responsible for the administration of anesthetic agents and adjuvants to patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical and obstetrical procedures across Cook County Health (CCH), including John H.

Stroger, JR. Hospital and Provident Hospital. The incumbent also performs preoperative rounds, evaluates the adequacy of patient preparation, makes postoperative visits to monitor recovery, communicates anesthesia plans and informed consent, manages airway and vital functions, supports ventilation, monitors physiologic responses, maintains accurate records, addresses complications, attends conferences, participates in educational programs, oversees student nurse anesthetist instruction, and performs other duties as assigned.

Administer all anesthetic agents and adjuvants to patients undergoing surgical, obstetrical, and other diagnostic procedures; administer oxygen, anesthetic gases, intravenous anesthetics, analgesics, regional anesthesia, and intravenous solutions, blood and blood products. Manage airway and support vital functions, including induction, intubation, and maintenance of anesthesia. Support patient ventilation manually or via mechanical ventilator, monitor physiologic response using electrocardiography, pulse oximetry, capnography, and blood gas/electrolyte measurements.

Continuously monitor and interpret vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and volume, invasive monitoring) and bodily functions during anesthesia and surgery. Maintain an accurate record of all anesthetics, medications, and fluids used. Provide professional observation and support until patient regains vital functions.

Recognize undesirable responses and take corrective action, including consulting an anesthesiologist when needed. Attend clinical conferences, morbidity & mortality conferences, and departmental meetings. Participate in required educational programs for fire safety and other hospital programs.

Keep abreast of anesthesia trends and practice. Engage in departmental quality assurance projects, morbidity & mortality reports, conferences, and presentations. Supervise, evaluate, and provide professional guidance for the rotating student nurse anesthetist from Rush University Nurse Anesthesia program.

Anticipate completion of successful anesthesia clinical rotations, with increasing levels during student nurse anesthesia education. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.

Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois. Master's Degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia program, or eligibility to complete such a degree within two weeks prior to employment (original transcript or eligibility letter required). Current Illinois Advanced Practice License and CRNA certification required by first day of employment.

Current Illinois Advanced Practice License and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia certificate, or ability to obtain within two weeks prior to employment. Progressive experience and advanced knowledge in a specialized area of clinical nursing. Active CPR card (or ability to obtain within two weeks of starting), with proof at interview if already obtained.

Active ACLS certification (or ability to obtain within two weeks of starting), with proof at interview if already obtained. Active PALS certification (or ability to obtain within two weeks of starting), with proof at interview if already obtained. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Current experience and applied knowledge of all anesthetic agents and adjuvants, anesthesia machines, instruments, and monitoring equipment, and practical experience in providing all types of anesthesia.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS Knowledge to provide anesthesia services, including monitored anesthesia care, regional, and general anesthesia. Knowledge of anesthesia and related pharmacology agents to provide anesthesia services including general, local, monitored anesthesia care, and regional anesthesia. Ability to work any shift.

VETERAN PREFERENCE Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces for at least six months. Veterans must meet minimum qualifications, identify as Veteran on the application, and attach a copy of DD 214, DD 215, or NGB 22 with an honorable discharge status.

If unavailable, a valid state ID or driver’s license that identifies the holder as a Veteran may be used. Veterans must provide original applicable discharge papers or ID/driver’s license at interview.
