Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Acute Oncology Service The closing date is 07 May 2026 Acute Oncology (AO) is a developing speciality within South East Wales. This is an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join the highly performing Acute Oncology Service (AOS) at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. The Acute Oncology Service supports cancer patients who are admitted to hospital with complications of cancer, side effects of their treatment, or a new diagnosis of cancer.
Main Duties of the Job We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated ANP to deliver excellent clinical and patient outcomes across both main UHB sites as a core member of the AO team. The post-holder will provide exceptional quality, person‑centred care, supporting early, timely and effective treatment for patients presenting with complications of cancer or treatment and MUO/CUP. The successful candidate will work independently and autonomously, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team and leading the Acute Oncology Service Clinical Nurse Specialist team.
They will demonstrate resilience, leadership, and a professional drive with a commitment to developing the services we provide. Key responsibilities include: Providing expert advice, initiating investigations, undertaking advanced procedures, and implementing patient care as appropriate. Enhancing patient experience, ensuring clinical governance, and contributing to audit.

Qualifications Level 1 registered nurse / NMC registration Master's degree in advanced practice Further qualifications/education relating to AO/medicine/oncology Independent prescriber Teaching and assessing Research qualification Level 1 RCR ultrasound competence Experience Experience working autonomously Experience running nurse‑led clinics Previous experience in acute oncology/medicine Skills Leadership and management Advanced clinical skills Ability to work independently Effective teaching/supervisory skills Experience in diagnostic/therapeutic procedures of thoracic and abdominal paracentesis IV cannulation Venepuncture Knowledge Advanced knowledge of acute oncology Knowledge of audit and research Planning and delivery of patient care Personal Attributes Professional attitude to work Demonstrated motivation and enthusiasm for development Welsh speaker Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
