Sharp & Carter is partnering with a well-established, boutique public practice accounting firm based in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. With decades of history in the local area, our client has built a loyal client base across business services, tax, superannuation and advisory, and prides itself on a close, relationship-driven way of working, both with clients and within the team.

The Role

Sick of the city grind? This is a real alternative to the CBD commute, the long hours culture, and the revolving door of large firm life. Our client is looking for an Intermediate or Senior Accountant (level negotiable, depending on experience) to join a stable, close-knit team in a firm that has been part of the local business community for over 30 years.

You'll work across a varied client base spanning individuals, SMEs and SMSFs, with real autonomy and client-facing exposure from day one, all within a predictable, sustainable 9-5 structure.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing financial statements and income tax returns for a range of individual, trust, partnership and company clients
• Managing a portfolio of clients directly, building long-term relationships and becoming a trusted point of contact
• Work closely with Partners and Managers on client matters and special projects
• Preparing Business Activity Statements, FBT returns and other compliance lodgements
• Assisting with tax planning and advisory work for business clients
• Supporting SMSF compliance and administration where relevant
• Liaising directly with clients on their financial position, queries and ongoing needs
• Mentoring and reviewing the work of junior team members (for more senior applicants)
• Contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture

About You

• CA or CPA qualified, or well progressed towards completion
• 2+ years' experience in public practice (exact level flexible, both intermediate and senior applicants encouraged to apply)
• Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge across financial statements and income tax
• Confident communicator, comfortable building direct relationships with clients
• Someone who values stability, work-life balance and a true 9-5 culture over relentless billable hour targets
• A team player who thrives in a smaller, close-knit environment rather than a large corporate structure
• Based locally, or actively looking to move away from city-based commuting
