Position Summary

Reports to: Nova Metrix Canadian Controller. The Water Business Accountant is responsible for day to day accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, G/L, inventory/cost accounting, revenue recognition, and all aspects of multiple plant financial management, planning, reporting, systems, and controls to accurately reflect the locations’ profit and drive improvements. The successful candidate will be hands‑on and can provide leadership and look at opportunities for cost savings, along with system improvements.

This position reports directly to the Nova Metrix Canadian Controller and will sit in our Waterloo Hydrogeologic office in Waterloo, Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform as an expert in all aspects of financial planning, reporting, controls and administration
  • Preparation of periodic financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and CA GAAP
  • Manage all accounting functions related to manufacturing, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, etc
  • Responsible for all accounting, audit, and tax activities for multi‑site locations including Waterloo Hydrogeologic (Canada), and Westbay Instruments (Canada)
  • Provide financial services to support all departments to assist them in areas of purchasing, inventory, costing, budgeting, and understanding of financial statements
  • Analyze variances and communicate explanations to management with recommended actions
  • Establish and maintain internal accounting and operational controls over revenue recognition, expense management, and effective measurement and control over all assets
  • Ensure the accuracy of physical inventory
  • Help prepare the annual budget and quarterly forecasts
  • Manage the month‑end closing process and provide daily and weekly flash reports
  • Support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust, productivity, and accountability
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
  • Prepare Canadian and multi‑currency journal entries for the month‑end closing process and provide weekly flash reports

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with CPA preferred
  • Min 5-10 years accounting experience, manufacturing environment preferred
  • Canadian accounting experience to effectively manage local statutory regulations
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to constructively resolve conflicts
  • Ability to build partnerships across and between functional groups and lead a project or participate on a technical team
  • Strong interpersonal skills, essential in dealing with people at all levels and in a variety of functions; able to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results
  • Self‑confident, ability to accept and respond to challenges in a positive manner
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner
  • Multiple ERP package experience (Acumatica and/or Great Plains preferred), Microsoft advanced excel skills

Compensation

  • Base salary, depending on candidate, plus bonus of up to 10% of base salary
