JOB TITLE: Family Nurse GRADE: Band 7 LOCATION: ‘SPACE’ Unit 1-4 WORK HOURS: 36 hours per week CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent post SALARY SCALE: Band 7 £52,845 – £61,466 Overview The Family Nurse will be part of the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) in NHS Lothian, delivering services to pregnant first‑time young mothers and their infants up to the child’s age of 2 years, following the FNP model. Responsibilities • Provide nursing care and support to up to 25 pregnant first‑time young mothers and their infants, ensuring continuity of care until the child reaches two years of age. • Apply the principles of “Getting It Right for Every Child” (GIRFEC) and maintain a robust understanding of national and local child protection and wellbeing policies. • Engage with children, young people and families in communities experiencing inequalities and demonstrate leadership and innovative practice at Masters level or equivalent. • Attend mandatory training events, including residential and non‑residential training, as scheduled. Qualifications and Experience • Registered with the NMC on sub part 1 or midwifery part of the register. • Degree level education in a relevant subject, with Masters level education or equivalent clinical practice demonstrated. • Evidence of recognised nursing leadership skills and willingness to work both innovatively and flexibly beyond core hours. • Strong commitment to the spirit and ethos of FNP and its strength‑based approach.
Additional Requirements • Availability for mandatory training events across the country, including residential training. • Membership (or current registration) in the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme for the child and/or adult regulatory group. • Meeting or obtaining the necessary criminal record checks as per the legislative changes effective 1 April 2025. • Ability to work with individuals with long‑term conditions or who are neurodivergent, with reasonable adjustments made by NHS Scotland.
