Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Network Security Engineer to support and enhance the cybersecurity posture of a leading energy-sector organization based in Calgary. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining secure network infrastructure across corporate and operational technology (OT) environments. This role requires strong expertise in network security technologies, incident response, and regulatory compliance within critical infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures for enterprise and industrial environments. Configure, manage, and optimize firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, web security gateways, and network access control solutions. Monitor network security events and investigate potential threats, vulnerabilities, and incidents.
Conduct network security assessments, risk analyses, and remediation activities. Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and operations teams to implement security best practices. Support security projects involving network segmentation, Zero Trust initiatives, and secure remote access solutions.
Perform firewall rule reviews, policy optimization, and change management activities. Develop and maintain network security documentation, standards, and procedures. Assist with incident response activities, root cause analysis, and post-incident reporting.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, cybersecurity frameworks, and corporate security standards. Participate in security audits and support remediation efforts. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members as needed.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related discipline. 5+ years of experience in network security engineering or cybersecurity infrastructure roles. Strong hands-on experience with enterprise firewall technologies such as: Fortinet FortiGate Check Point Experience with: IDS/IPS technologies VPN solutions Network Access Control (NAC) Secure Web Gateways DNS and email security solutions Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, and network segmentation. Experience supporting cloud security environments (Azure and/or AWS).
Familiarity with SIEM platforms such as Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, or QRadar. Experience performing vulnerability assessments and remediation planning. Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks including NIST CSF, CIS Controls, and ISO 27001.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in the Energy, Utilities, Oil & Gas, or Critical Infrastructure sectors. Exposure to Operational Technology (OT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), and SCADA environments. Relevant certifications such as: CISSP CCNP Security PCNSE GIAC (GSEC, GCIA, GCIH) CISM Security+ Experience with Zero Trust architectures and micro-segmentation initiatives.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to energy organizations. #J-18808-Ljbffr
