Staff Engineer – Backend

Namaskaram! Ajna Lens is looking for a Staff Engineer – Backend to join our Product Engineering team at Thane (Maharashtra – India). This is a high-impact leadership role for an experienced backend engineer who will drive scalable architecture, platform evolution, and engineering excellence for our B2C platforms.

The ideal candidate should have 8+ years of experience in building high-scale consumer-facing platforms with a strong foundation in backend architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native development. This role demands a strong product mindset, technical depth, and the ability to lead and mentor teams while shipping fast in a collaborative environment. The next computing revolution is here. Top 3 Daily Responsibilities: Architect and build scalable backend services using modern backend frameworks (Python – FastAPI/Django or equivalent). Lead key technical decisions across infrastructure, real-time data pipelines, platform observability, and system scalability.

Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and infrastructure teams to deliver user-first features at scale. Minimum Work Experience Required: 8+ years of backend development experience with strong expertise in scalable system design. Proven experience in building and scaling cloud-native, distributed applications.

Experience in a senior/staff/technical leadership role guiding architecture and engineering teams. Top 5 Skills You Should Possess: Deep hands-on experience with backend programming (Python preferred) and frameworks like Django or FastAPI. Proven expertise in building microservices, event-driven systems, and streaming pipelines.

Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL, Redis, and modern data systems. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and distributed infrastructure. Strong system design skills with the ability to lead architecture discussions and mentor engineers.

Full-Stack & System Awareness: Familiarity with frontend tools like ReactJS for internal dashboards or lightweight interfaces. Understanding of DevOps practices, containerization, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry. Awareness of real-time systems, scalable APIs, and modern backend ecosystems.

Leadership & Strategic Capabilities: Ability to lead architecture reviews and define backend engineering standards. Strong mentoring skills to guide and grow engineering teams. Ownership mindset with the ability to drive projects from concept to production.

Strong collaboration skills across product, design, and infrastructure teams. Bonus Points For: Experience working with LLM integrations, RAG pipelines, vector search, or AI-driven backend systems. Exposure to real-time infrastructure or high-performance consumer platforms.

Experience building B2C products from scratch and scaling them. Basic understanding or working knowledge of AI/ML concepts is a plus. Passion for building impactful, scalable technology products.
