Location US-MA-TEWKSBURY-TB3 ~ 50 Apple Hill Dr ~ CONCORD BLDG, Tewksbury Tb3 300 Concord Position Type Onsite Security Clearance Required U.S. citizenship is required. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required; an active and existing clearance must be held after day 1. Position Overview Principal System Safety Engineer – Safety Lead responsible for executing all aspects of system safety, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-882E, and coordinating with cross‑functional stakeholders.

What You Will Do Develop and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs. Understand the safety budget and tasking through coordination with the responsible CAM/IPTL/product owner, including EACs. Mentor junior safety engineers.

Actively engage in engineering review boards to stay on top of design changes and assess impacts to the established safety program. Establish an ongoing feedback loop with functional and program management. Lead and coordinate System Safety Working Groups between key Raytheon and customer representatives.

Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards to recommend compliance strategies to program leadership. Work across integrated teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls. Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering functions to identify and mitigate risks.

Analyze engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance. Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from design, fabrication, integration and test, production to demilitarization and disposal phases. Manage safety‑related interactions with suppliers and/or subcontractors.

Understand and shape system safety across the lifecycle (design, integration/test, flight test, production, field, returns). Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Experience with DoD System Safety Programs (e.g., MIL-STD-882).

Qualifications We Prefer Experience briefing at military safety review boards, engineering change proposals, engineering review boards, and system safety working groups. Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and proposal development. 6 years experience with a Master’s degree in STEM.
