Job Description
Job Responsibilities Develop piping system designs, layouts, and routing for industrial/process facilities. Prepare and review P&IDs, piping layouts and isometrics, general arrangement drawings, pipe support details, line lists and valve schedules, and equipment layouts. Perform piping material selection based on process conditions, temperature, pressure, and service requirements.
Coordinate with mechanical, process, structural, electrical, and controls disciplines. Review vendor drawings and contractor submissions for compliance with project requirements. Support field installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and risk assessments. Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including ASMEB31.1/B31.3, CSA standards, API standards, and local regulatory requirements. Assist in preparing project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and technical specifications.
Provide technical guidance during fabrication and installation activities. Support management of change (MOC) processes and plant engineering standards. Conduct site inspections and verify as‑built conditions.
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario or an equivalent governing body (preferred). 5+ years of industrial piping engineering experience, preferably in continuous manufacturing environments. Experience in manufacturing, industrial processing, oil & gas, chemical, or heavy industrial environments (preferred).
Strong understanding of piping codes, standards, and best engineering practices. Experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D, Autodesk Vault, Navisworks, and familiarity with pressure vessels, pumps, dust collection, utilities, and process equipment. Knowledge of pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CaesarII).
Experience with contractor coordination and field construction support. Understanding of fabrication methods and welding requirements. Experience developing engineering standards and specifications.
Strong communication, organizational, and project coordination skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Willingness to travel, including travel to the United States.
