Job Description
What is the opportunity? The role is part of North American and European Ops monitoring and processing of Corporate Action Events for RBC Capital Markets security trading businesses and clients. It ensures events are captured, reconciled, monitored and funded where required, acting as first line of defense to trading businesses and maintaining accurate books for seamless client experience.
Responsibilities Ensure all daily tasks and controls are completed in line with departmental PRIMA maps and procedures. Assist the Team Manager and Department Head on projects, process improvements, and new business initiatives. Continue to develop product and market knowledge to reduce operational risks.
Escalate unusual behavior or processing issues to the Team Manager or above following the Operations Escalation Policy. Understand and locate central RBC policies and ensure PRIMA maps and procedures are up to date. Investigate processing issues and recommend a course of action; support execution once approved.
Support colleagues during busy periods by sharing workloads. Provide best‑in‑class client services to internal and external clients by responding to queries within agreed timeframes. Adhere to mandatory training requirements in Talentlink and proactively suggest additional training.
Responsible for processing, balancing, and reconciling positions related to mergers, conversions, and redemptions, including scrubbing announcements, balancing entitlements, processing mandatory and voluntary actions, processing protect and liability notices, and allocating dividend and interest payments. Manage and process corporate action events – event identification, position identification and validation, processing option assignments and expiries, and processing incoming/outgoing checks and wires for coupons and dividends. Adhere to the RBC attestation policy and payment risk standing order, ensuring all payments have justifiable business reason, correct settlement instruction records, authentication, and segregation of duties compliance.
Maintain regular communication with Front Office Sales and Trading teams, external brokers, and counterparties. Collaborate across internal Ops teams and support functions (Financial Control, Product Control, DMO, GRM) to ensure seamless operations. Liaise with third‑party providers such as settlement agents, Nostro agents, and central counterparties as needed.
Uphold RBC’s reputation and ensure operational excellence. Identify and escalated operational risks, loss events, and control deficiencies promptly. Support capital markets trading businesses, brokers, and external clients in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Ensure accuracy and attention to detail while meeting tight deadlines. Demonstrate flexibility in working hours during peak periods to support business requirements. Apply strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with internal teams, external counterparties, and third‑party providers.
Work effectively under pressure in a high‑stakes, time‑sensitive environment. Maintain exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Proactively identify and escalated risks or issues.
Exercise sound judgment to mitigate potential financial losses and safeguard RBC’s credibility in a role without direct budgetary authority. Office‑based role with limited travel opportunities. Qualifications University degree or College Diploma, or equivalent combination of qualifications and/or experience. 1+ years in a capital markets and/or reconciliation‑based role.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Problem‑solving and analytical thinking. Diplomacy and tact in dealing with staff and all levels of internal and external clients.
