Job Description

Position Intermediate to Senior Bridge Engineer – Transportation Engineering Group, British Columbia (Burnaby). Full‑time, in‑office or hybrid. Key Responsibilities Manage projects and/or designs of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and foundation engineering assignments.

Control scope, schedule, risks and costs against the project baseline. Interact with project controls and produce associated reporting. Communicate project status updates and expectations to the client.

Develop and manage client accounts, maximizing business opportunities. Prepare tender packages, conduct visual inspections, write reports, estimate costs and provide construction engineering services. Assist in proposal preparation and client relationship development.

Develop structural rehabilitation, strengthening and replacement strategies. Perform structural calculations and modelling using standard and proprietary software. Create contract drawings, design details, specifications, cost estimates, and reports for various bridge types and other transportation structures.

Conduct bridge, culvert and other structural inspections to assess condition. Mentor junior bridge engineers and technologists. Collaborate regularly with colleagues in a multi‑disciplined design office.

Coordinate with sub‑consultants. Provide construction administration and resident engineering support. Capabilities and Credentials Proven ability to manage quality, budget, schedule and technical deliverables across all project phases.

Strong client‑management skills. Experienced with project‑control systems and cost‑control practices. Advanced understanding of structural design and analysis concepts and methods.

Knowledge of relevant bridge design codes, especially CHBDC. Familiarity with British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Transit design criteria, construction specifications, inspection manuals and standard drawings. Skilled in structural modelling and design software such as SAP2000, CSiBridge or equivalent.

Ability to create and interpret sketches, drawings, and related documentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Enthusiastic, self‑motivated, and committed to continual improvement.

Works independently and within a team. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.

Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering (additional higher education is an asset). Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Minimum of 12 years of bridge‑related work experience.

Location and Work Arrangement Primary location: Burnaby, BC. The role may require occasional fieldwork. The schedule is full time, with travel required.
