Job Description
IT Engineer – 12-month Contract This role is a 12-month contract position with Huawei Canada, based in Kingston, Ontario. The candidate will be responsible for regional and office network implementation, IT infrastructure management, and help-desk support across the organization. Key Responsibilities Network implementation and maintenance, including WAN/LAN/Voice solution design, equipment configuration and deployment, and troubleshooting.
System implementation and maintenance of Windows servers, web applications, databases, and storage systems. Construction and maintenance of IT infrastructure such as server rooms, structured cabling, video conferencing systems, and UPS. Service-provider quotation, bidding, negotiation, and supervision of engineering work.
Ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of network, server, and IT infrastructure. Implementation of IT standards and policies, analysis of business requirements, and initiation of IT projects. Build and manage IT infrastructure components—networks, servers, cabling, door-access control, CCTV, incident, availability, capacity, and continuity management, data backup and recovery.
Help-desk support for users: desktop support, printer support, and training on IT platforms, applications, and services. Target annual compensation: $48,000 – $94,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise. Ideal Candidate Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related IT field.
At least 3 years of relevant IT support experience. Proficiency in TCP/IP technologies. Familiarity with WAN technologies and corporate-level network architecture, Frame Relay, PPP, MPLS.
Proficiency in routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF. Understanding of LAN technologies, building-level LAN architecture, VLAN, STP. Experience with Windows server systems: AD, DNS, DHCP, web server, SQL server.
Strong server troubleshooting and maintenance skills. Knowledge of IT infrastructure items: server room facilities, structured cabling, UPS, door-access control, CCTV, and air conditioning. Proficient with laptop/desktop OS and office software troubleshooting.
