Job Family: Buildings Req ID: 502879 Building Automation Design Engineers create unique design solutions to meet specific customer requirements for commercial building automation systems in new and existing facilities. The role focuses on design, recommendations for productivity improvements, cost reductions, and ensuring customer satisfaction and job profitability. Responsibilities Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for higher education, K‑12 education facilities, data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high‑rise buildings, and lab facilities.

Demonstrate expertise in engineering and contracting processes, with strong grasp of submittal requirements and documentation standards essential for project success. Attend internal and external meetings to support opportunities and contribute technical details to project designs; meetings may be held at project sites, contractor offices and Siemens area offices. Prepare or work with an engineer to prepare design documents, including mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, system integration, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts.

Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third‑party integration devices connected through Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, Desigo, or BACnet. Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks. Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, etc.

Prepare engineering re‑estimates and follow up with appropriate sales and management to ensure understanding of and satisfaction with job scope. Perform quality assurance and peer‑review engineering documents. Qualifications Basic Qualifications High school diploma or state‑recognized GED. 5+ years of experience in building automation (HVAC controls) design.

Ability to travel up to 35%. Proficiency in designing large and complex jobs using standard tools, products, and practices. Knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations.

Proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio. Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship. Position is hybrid with visits to the local area office and contractor sites.

Occasional travel will be required for team gatherings, project kick‑offs, strategic discussions, or training. Preferred Qualifications Associate or Bachelor’s degree. 7+ years of building automation (HVAC controls) design experience.
