The company is building an AI-native platform for a large, highly regulated market that has seen almost no meaningful software innovation in decades. They have strong product-market fit, accelerating NRR, and more customer demand than they can currently keep up with.

They’re now hiring a Head of Engineering to own engineering execution end-to-end - the first dedicated engineering leader on a lean team of distributed senior and staff engineers. This is an AI-native org using aggressive AI leverage to out-ship much bigger competitors. They need a player-coach who can set the bar, stay close to the code, and turn engineering into a competitive advantage rather than a bottleneck.

Responsibilities Own what ships, how fast, and how reliably - end-to-end accountability for engineering output on timelines the company stands behind Stay close enough to the code to make sharp technical calls and earn the team’s trust Make architectural decisions that build and protect the company’s competitive moat - UX, data modelling, and data centricity Get real velocity from AI tooling across the team - no AI slop, just measurable output Build and own the engineering operating system - code review, on-call, incident response, security Own the hiring bar and team size as the company grows selectively Requirements 7+ years as a strong IC engineer with recent leadership of distributed teams at an early-stage B2B startup Led a distributed engineering team of 5+ at an early-stage B2B startup Experience building user-facing products at the application layer with strong data modelling fluency Background in regulated industries (GovTech, HealthTech, FinTech), former founder/founding engineer, or data-centric product companies (Nice to have) Shipped production code in the last 6 months - this is not a purely managerial role Fluent across the stack - React, Node, PostgreSQL, AWS, Terraform Intellectual sparring partner - takes direct feedback and pushes back when genuinely disagreeing Low ego with a well-rounded perspective Profitable, top-tier backed, strong PMF, and accelerating.
