RWE Americas, LLC To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent Functional area: Administration; Engineering; Geotechnics; Operations & Maintenance; Power Plants; Process Management Remuneration: Exempt Overview The Director of Engineering will oversee PV and Battery Energy Storage (BES) Engineering activities, including project development engineering, energy modeling, detailed design, commissioning support, and performance testing. The role manages both PV and BES engineering resources in the distributed energy space across multiple projects, coordinating internal and external resources to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions. Responsibilities Plan, supervise, manage, and coordinate PV and BES engineering design efforts using in‑house and external resources.

Resolve design and construction issues as they arise. Stay current on tariffs, local utility design standards, and development requirements. Ensure all design deliverables meet internal engineering standards.

Manage both internal and external resources to provide technical support for PV and BES development and construction. Prepare and maintain external engineering specifications and scopes of work. Review and confirm the accuracy of work performed by engineering staff or external resources.

Continuously evaluate new and existing approved equipment and technologies; update system design standards or approaches when appropriate. Mentor engineering staff and support their professional growth. Participate in industry trade and policy working groups related to distribution system modernization.

Approve detailed engineering design work and provide feedback to refine engineering processes and procedures. Answer questions and resolve issues raised by sales, engineering, and project management teams. Spearhead new product development initiatives and identify areas for value engineering.

Review design approach methods and equipment selection to achieve optimal project design and customer goals. Establish and maintain budgets for third‑party engineering firms. Communicate and collaborate with other departments, suppliers, and contractors.

Maintain technical contract exhibits for construction through EPCs or subcontractors. Support development, cost estimating, construction, and onsite visits to ensure project alignment. Define and uphold standard processes and procedures for the engineering team.

Review power purchase agreements and EPC agreements to ensure design compliance. Oversee testing and quality assurance checks performed by engineering staff to verify project quality. Requirements and Experience Undergraduate (BS) degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE) registration required. Valid driver’s license. Minimum 10 years of experience in renewable energy projects (PV and energy storage).

Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams. Strong organizational and project‑management skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Self‑motivated, multitasking, and able to thrive in a timeline‑driven environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and SKM/ETap. Analytical and mathematical aptitude for evaluating and solving complex problems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership for cross‑functional collaboration. Experience with specification and scope of work document drafting.

Professional representation of company interests. Detail‑oriented engineering mindset with a big‑picture perspective. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely in extreme field environments.

Willingness to travel to and from job sites as required. Office‑based work with occasional travel and site visits. Ability to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods.

Pay Range The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois or New York is $196,000 - $295,000.
