Overview We're seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to join our Canadian payroll team. You'll play a vital role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while gaining comprehensive exposure to multi-provincial operations. Responsibilities Payroll Processing: Process accurate, timely payroll for assigned employee groups across multiple provinces, ensuring compliance with CPP, EI, and federal/provincial tax withholdings.
Handle routine transactions including new hires, terminations, salary changes, benefit deductions, and standard off‑cycle payments. Data Management: Maintain accurate employee payroll records in the HRIS system, ensuring data integrity and timely updates. Validate payroll inputs, reconcile accounts, investigate discrepancies, and perform regular audits to identify and correct errors proactively.
Compliance Support: Apply knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation to daily processing. Assist with government remittances and filings including T4s, T4As, ROEs, EHT returns, and WSIB reporting. Maintain organized documentation for audit requirements.
Employee Support: Respond professionally to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax matters. Research and resolve payroll questions promptly, escalating complex issues to senior team members when appropriate. System Support: Utilize payroll system functionality efficiently.
Identify process improvement opportunities. Participate in system testing for upgrades and implementations. Contribute automation and workflow enhancement ideas.
Reporting: Generate standard payroll reports for HR and Finance teams. Assist with variance analysis, cost reports, and reconciliations. Support month‑end and year‑end close activities.
Required Qualifications Experience: 2+ years of Canadian payroll experience with hands‑on processing responsibilities. Understanding of payroll fundamentals with readiness to deepen multi‑provincial expertise. Education: Post‑secondary education in Business, Accounting, HR, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and payroll experience.
Certification: PLP certification preferred, or commitment to obtain within 18 months with JLL's support. NPI course enrollment or completion is an asset. Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of Canadian payroll fundamentals including CPP, EI, income tax, vacation pay, and statutory holidays.
Familiarity with at least one provincial jurisdiction with willingness to learn others. Systems: Experience with payroll/HRIS systems (ADP, Ceridian, Workday, or similar). Comfortable learning new technology and navigating multiple systems.
Technical Skills: Intermediate to advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP. Ability to work with large datasets and identify patterns. Professional Attributes: Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills; reliable, accountable, and able to meet deadlines during busy periods.
Professional communication skills, commitment to confidentiality, and sound judgment with sensitive information. Preferred Qualifications Active PLP course enrollment. Multi-provincial experience (especially Quebec), commission/bonus calculation familiarity.
