Location Ottawa, Canada Position Summary Thales is looking for a Data Engineer who will be involved in the data engineering activities in support of projects that contribute to naval platforms in-service support programs. As part of the Innovation Team, you will help deliver value to the operational team quickly in an agile and incremental way. You will work with business analysts and operational stakeholders to identify problems and build data foundation solutions that can be put in production.
The function may include defining and implementing formal data practices, designing data architecture, implementing automated data pipelines, deploying machine learning models, and implementing software that helps with decision‑making. Key Areas of Responsibility Contribute to the definition of a data platform architecture that is suitable for the business needs of the program. Support data initiatives such as Technical Data Package management, data migration and Condition‑Based Maintenance (CBM) of complex assets.
Contribute to the deployment and maintenance of tools part of the TCDS data platform. Develop ETL/ELT pipelines. Develop data mappings and lineage.
Develop data quality rules. Develop data orchestration workflows infrastructure. Deploy and monitor AI/ML models in production.
Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in software engineering, computer science or related field. 7 years of experience with data engineering toolsets such as AirFlow, Argo, dbt, Nifi. 7 years of experience with data architecture, data modelling techniques and languages. 7 years of experience in data quality benchmarking and analysis. Experience with scripting technologies such as Python or R. Knowledge of agile software engineering methodologies.
Ability to work on well‑defined projects with minimal supervision. Proven problem solving and analytic skills with a desire to learn. Capability to develop strong relationships across the business through excellent customer service and business acumen.
Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree in mathematics, physics or a related field. Experience with military (ideally Navy). Experience with software engineering.
Experience with ERPs such as SAP, IBM Maximo. Experience with artificial intelligence techniques and toolsets. Experience with IoT systems such as Aveva PI.
Knowledge of Information Management standards and best practices (ISO 15926, CFIHOS, ISO 10303, etc.). Strong HTML and JavaScript skills. Knowledge of XML/XSLT languages.
Proficiency in scripting using Batch/PowerShell. Proficiency in programming with .Net/C#. Special Position Requirements Occasional travel within Canada.

Compensation: The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between CAD90,000.00 – 120,000.00 per year.
