Substation Senior Engineer

Overview Electrical Consultants, Inc., a leading power engineering consulting firm, has an immediate opening for an experienced substation senior engineer in the Phoenix, AZ office. This position is responsible for configuring and producing engineering drawings for the installation and commissioning of electro‑mechanical and microprocessor‑type protection relay systems in high‑voltage substations. These systems protect and control the operation of distribution and transmission lines, medium and large power transformers, shunt capacitor banks, shunt reactors, series capacitor banks, and associated electrical buses and equipment in high‑voltage substations and switchyards.

The candidate will work with design teams on conceptual, preliminary, and final design of station projects ranging from 4.16 kV to 500 kV. Additionally, the role requires the education and training of less‑experienced staff and occasional travel. Responsibilities Produce one‑line, three‑line, schematic, and wiring diagrams for high‑voltage substation projects.

Develop and review engineering drawings for the installation and commissioning of protection relay systems. Collaborate with design teams throughout the project life cycle, from conceptual to final design. Mentor and train junior engineers and support staff.

Ensure compliance with all design and safety standards. Minimum Requirements BSEE, 5+ years of experience specifying, configuring, and producing engineering drawings for the installation and commissioning of electro‑mechanical and microprocessor‑type protection relay systems in high‑voltage substations. Extensive background in power system protection and control is required.

Proven experience managing a team and excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills are essential. The applicant must be subject to client‑mandated drug and background checks and meet the requirements of ECI’s auto insurance carrier.
