Reports to: Senior Manager, Platform Engineering About This Role Rates.ca operates a modern, regulated, multiâplatform engineering ecosystem spanning cloud, edge, CI/CD, observability, and data platforms. As the platform surface grows, weâre looking for strong Platform Engineers who can: Build and evolve paved roads for software engineers Operate confidently across cloud and edge architectures Reduce friction, risk, and toil across delivery teams Partner closely with Security, Operations, and Software Engineering What Youâll Work On (Platform Scope) Youâll contribute to and operate across the core platforms currently used at Rates.ca, including: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, networking, managed services) Hybrid workloads spanning serverless and VMâbased systems Regional and environmentâaware deployment patterns Edge & Traffic Platforms Cloudflare as a firstâclass platform, including: CDN and edge routing Cloudflare Workers for edge APIs and request transformation DNS, SSL/TLS, and traffic management WAF, bot management, rate limiting, and DDoS protection Integration between Cloudflare edge and AWS CI/CD & Infrastructure as Code GitLab CI/CD pipelines Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and change control Environment consistency across production and nonâproduction Observability & Operations Platformâlevel alerting and signal hygiene Incident prevention in partnership with Engineering Operations Data & Persistence (in partnership with data specialists) Relational databases (e.g., MariaDB or managed RDSâstyle platforms) Eventâdriven and dataâpipeline integrations (where applicable) Secure data access patterns and operational guardrails Core Responsibilities Build and maintain standardized platform components used by product teams Improve developer experience through selfâservice tooling and automation Reduce bespoke infrastructure patterns and undocumented tribal knowledge Treat internal platforms as products, with consumers and feedback loops Implement and evolve Cloudflare and AWS patterns for performance, reliability, and security Support edge use cases such as API proxying, validation, and transformation Ensure consistent routing, TLS, and traffic controls across environments Participate in Cloudflare operational readiness and incident response workflows Reliability & Security by Default Embed security and compliance guardrails into platform primitives Partner with Security Engineering on: Firewall rules Edge security analytics Reduce platformâcaused incidents through automation and standardization Contribute to postâincident remediation and systemic fixes AIâAugmented Platform Work Use approved AIâassisted tooling to: Analyze logs and metrics Accelerate rootâcause analysis Ensure AI is used responsibly, with human review and auditability What Success Looks Like Software Engineers adopt standard platform paths by default Faster environment provisioning with fewer manual steps Reduced edgeâ and platformârelated incidents Clear, observable behavior across cloud and edge layers Platforms that scale without increasing cognitive load What You Bring Strong experience as a Platform, Cloud, or Infrastructure Engineer Handsâon experience with AWS cloud services Handsâon experience managing Cloudflare (CDN, Workers, DNS, WAF, TLS) Experience with Terraform and modern CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or equivalent) Comfort working across networking, security, and application boundaries Strong troubleshooting and systemsâthinking skills Experience with edge and cloud architectures (Cloudflare + AWS) Observability tooling experience (e.g., Datadog) Experience operating in regulated or highâavailability environments Familiarity with AIâassisted diagnostics or platform analytics Why Join Us?
