Android TV Developer Intern: 6 months, Remote (India) We're building a streaming app for Android TV / Google TV and looking for an intern who wants to go deep on TV app development: Compose for TV, video playback, and real-hardware testing. You'll work on a live product, not throwaway exercises. Good fit if you've built at least one Android app and want to specialize in the TV / streaming space.
THE BASICS - Duration: 6 months - Location: Remote (work from home), India - Stipend: โน(SET BEFORE POSTING)/month - Start: within 15โ30 days WHAT YOU'LL OWN - Build Android TV screens with Jetpack Compose for TV : content rows, carousels, hero tiles with D-pad focus management for remote navigation - Integrate Media3 / ExoPlayer for HLS and DASH playback, including audio focus and remote key handling - Configure the TV app manifest correctly : Leanback feature flag, TV banner, LEANBACK_LAUNCHER intent - for proper launcher placement - Test on real Android TV / Google TV hardware: fix focus traps, playback regressions, and UI issues across screen sizes - Document setup, build steps, and known issues WHAT YOU'LL LEARN ON THE JOB (mentored, not solo) - Widevine DRM for protected content - Google IMA SDK for ad-supported playback (CSAI / SSAI) - Home Screen Channels and Watch Next tiles via the TvProvider API - Backend integration - catalog API, auth, entitlements These are genuinely advanced areas. You're not expected to know them beforehand. You should be willing to learn them with support.
WHAT YOU NEED - Kotlin - Comfortable in Android Studio - Jetpack Compose basics - Git / GitHub - A basic grasp of how video playback works (ExoPlayer experience is a plus, not required) - A machine that can run Android Studio and the Android TV emulator NICE TO HAVE - CS / IT background, or self-taught with a solid portfolio - At least one Android app you've built : coursework, hackathon, or shipped - Any exposure to video streaming, OTT / CTV, ExoPlayer, or ad integration (IMA SDK, OM SDK) WHO SHOULD APPLY You're available for the full 6 months, can start within 15โ30 days, and genuinely want to learn TV app development.
