AscendPM is supporting a leading biopharmaceutical company in South Dublin with the delivery of a major facility expansion. We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to take technical ownership of plant utility systems as they progress through construction, commissioning and handover to site operations.

This is a site-based, client-side engineering role reporting to the project’s Technical Lead. You will own assigned utility systems from construction and Mechanical Completion through startup, commissioning, operational readiness and final handover.

The systems include compressed air, cooling water and cooling towers, chilled water, potable water, domestic hot water, safety showers and heat recovery, along with associated pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valves, instrumentation and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take technical ownership of assigned plant utility systems, ensuring they are installed, commissioned and ready for operation.
  • Review P&IDs, equipment specifications, piping, controls and system interfaces against design and operational requirements.
  • Provide hands-on field engineering support, identifying and resolving installation, quality, constructability and operability issues.
  • Manage RFIs, technical queries, field changes and deviations with designers, contractors, vendors and site stakeholders.
  • Support inspections, walkdowns, tie-ins, punch-list closure and Mechanical Completion.
  • Confirm readiness for pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, filling, water treatment and startup.
  • Coordinate interfaces across Electrical, BMS/Automation, HVAC, CSA, Process Utilities, CQV and Operations.
  • Support startup and commissioning, troubleshooting system flow, pressure, temperature, balancing, controls and equipment performance.
  • Drive outstanding technical issues through to resolution and support the transfer of systems to site operations.
  • Contribute to operational readiness through maintenance planning, training, vendor support and knowledge transfer.

Skills and Experience:

  • Approximately 8–10 years’ experience in building services or mechanical engineering, including construction and commissioning within the life sciences sector.
  • Strong understanding of MEP and plant utility systems in GMP or other regulated facilities.
  • Experience taking systems from construction through Mechanical Completion, commissioning and operational handover.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and resolve technical issues directly in the field.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, vendors and site stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of relevant IS, EN, CIBSE and ASHRAE standards.
  • Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline. Chartered status is desirable but not essential.

Contract Information:

  • Rate: TBC dependent on level of skills and experience.
  • Start Date: ASAP.
  • Length of Contract: 12 month contract, with the possibility of an extension.
  • Schedule: 5 days per week on site. One remote day may be possible when the work sequence allows.
  • Location: South Dublin
  • Work Authorisation: Candidates must be eligible to work in Ireland without sponsorship.
