About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Anaesthetic Nurse to join the busy Perioperative Services team in Newcastle.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse with demonstrated anaesthetic nursing experience to provide high-quality care within a dynamic and supportive theatre environment.You will work as part of an experienced multidisciplinary perioperative team, supporting patients throughout the anaesthetic and surgical journey while working alongside specialist anaesthetists, surgeons and theatre staff.
About the Hospital
Newcastle's largest private hospital and is located in Merewether, just minutes from Newcastle CBD and Merewether Beach.
The hospital offers a broad range of acute surgical and medical services. The perioperative department is a large and busy service, with 14 surgical theatres, 2 endoscopy suites and a broad range of surgical specialties.
The hospital also provides advanced services including robotics, intensive care, coronary care and cardiac catheterisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing anaesthesia.
- Prepare patients for surgery and assist throughout the anaesthetic process.
- Assist anaesthetists during induction, maintenance and emergence from anaesthesia.
- Prepare and check anaesthetic equipment, medications and consumables.
- Monitor patients and respond appropriately to changes in clinical condition.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety and hospital policies.
- Work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons and the wider perioperative team.
- Participate in quality improvement and professional development activities.
Essential Criteria
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse.
- Demonstrated recent experience working as an Anaesthetic Nurse.
- Strong knowledge of anaesthetic equipment, medications and procedures.
- Excellent clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
- Commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
- Ability to work flexibly across a rotating roster.
Desirable Criteria
- Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing.
- Previous experience within a private hospital theatre environment.
- Experience across a range of surgical specialties.
- ALS or relevant advanced life support certification.
