Job Description

Engineerthe components that keep the world's largest mining machines moving.

Position Summary

At Boundary Equipment, engineering does notstop at the drawing. Our work reaches the shop floor, the field, and some ofthe most demanding open-pit mining operations in the world. We are looking fora Mechanical Engineer, Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or experienced EngineeringTechnologist to join our core engineering team and help design, improve, inspect, and support large mechanical components built for extreme operatingconditions.

This is not a narrow drafting role. Youwill move between SolidWorks and AutoCAD, dimensional inspection results, theshop floor, supplier discussions, rebuild activity, and field information. Youwill work alongside engineers, tradespeople, purchasing and production teams, suppliers, and customers to turn incomplete information and complex equipmentchallenges into practical, manufacturable solutions.

Whether you are a Mechanical Engineer, anEngineer-in-Training building toward professional designation, or anexperienced Engineering Technologist with strong practical capability, we areinterested in the value you can bring. Experience with mining equipment, heavymobile equipment, hydraulic systems, component rebuilds, or industrialmachinery will be highly valued.

About Boundary Equipment

Boundary Equipment, part of Boundary Group,is a leading supplier of replacement components and rebuild services to theinternational open-pit mining industry. Our products support CAT and P&Hrope shovels, Komatsu hydraulic shovels, and critical equipment operating inmajor processing plants and copper smelters. We combine engineering, manufacturing, inspection, and field knowledge to help customers keep essentialequipment performing.

Why This Engineering Role Stands Out

  • Engineer large, complexmechanical components used in demanding open-pit mining applications.
  • See your work move frominspection and design through manufacturing, quality review, rebuild, and fieldperformance.
  • Contribute across the fullproduct lifecycle, including product development, reverse engineering, failureanalysis, manufacturing support, quality control, and continuous improvement.
  • Work directly with experiencedengineers, skilled tradespeople, suppliers, and customers to understand howengineering decisions perform in practice.
  • Solve meaningful equipmentchallenges involving worn or failed components, incomplete legacy information, demanding operating conditions, tight tolerances, and real manufacturingconstraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to new productdevelopment and improve existing Boundary components, consideringmanufacturability, serviceability, reliability, safety, and field performance.
  • Create accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings, specifications, and technical documentation usingSolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Reverse engineer new andrepaired components using dimensional inspection, measurement, scanning, technical research, and analysis of field and shop information.
  • Work with the engineering andshop teams to troubleshoot manufacturing and repair challenges, clarifytechnical requirements, and develop practical solutions.
  • Support quality control andinspection activities using measurement and metrology tools, including calipersand micrometers.
  • Interpret inspection resultsagainst engineering drawings, technical procedures, specifications, andacceptance criteria.
  • Participate in field and siteinspections of mining equipment using Boundary-approved procedures, documentfindings, and develop technical recommendations.
  • Support mining componentrebuilds through inspection planning, failure analysis, technical reporting, scope development, costing input, and workflow execution.
  • Research OEM part information, materials, operating conditions, and emerging mining technologies to identifyproduct and process improvement opportunities.
  • Provide purchasing andproduction teams with drawings, procedures, standards, and technical decisionsrequired to manufacture Boundary products.
  • Collaborate with suppliersduring quotation, technical review, production, and inspection to resolveissues and confirm requirements.
  • Support the calibration andcontrol of inspection tools and equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in MechanicalEngineering Technology or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong proficiency inSolidWorks and AutoCAD, including the ability to create accurate,manufacturing-ready 3D models and drawings.
  • Strong understanding ofmechanical systems, manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, dimensionalinspection, and how components perform in service.
  • Hands-on technical capabilityand practical mechanical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicatetechnical information clearly and collaborate with engineers, tradespeople, suppliers, customers, and business partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical work.
  • Ability to manage changingpriorities while maintaining accuracy, safety, quality, and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Current registration oreligibility for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist,Engineer-in-Training, or Professional Engineer.
  • Experience with miningequipment, heavy mobile equipment, industrial machinery, hydraulic systems, orcomponent rebuilds.
  • Experience with reverseengineering, 3D scanning, dimensional inspection, metrology, failure analysis, quality control, or quality management systems.
  • Experience supportingmanufacturing, machining, fabrication, repair, or field-service operations.
  • Knowledge of open-pit miningequipment or heavy-equipment components.

Join Boundary Equipment

At Boundary Equipment, your ideas do notstay on the screen. You will see how design decisions affect machining, fabrication, inspection, assembly, rebuild activity, and field performance. Youwill gain meaningful exposure to large-scale mining equipment, complexcomponent challenges, and the full path from an identified need to a workingsolution.

If you want your engineeringwork to reach the shop floor, perform in the field, and solve equipmentchallenges that matter, we want to hear from you. Tell us about the hands-onengineering, manufacturing, rebuild, or heavy-equipment experience you wouldbring to Boundary Equipment.
