Senior Full Stack Java Developer - Vice President
Citi
Job Description
Citi's Banking Technology team is looking for a Senior Full Stack Java Developer to play a central role in a global digital transformation programme that is reshaping how institutional banking products are built and delivered. Sitting within Citi's Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory business — part of the Institutional Clients Group spanning more than 100 countries — you will design and build high-impact software that directly solves complex challenges for bankers and institutional clients. This is a hands‑on engineering role with real influence over architecture, standards, and the technical direction of the team.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deliver full stack product features end-to-end using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and REST APIs, taking ownership of quality from first commit to production.
- Architect and implement microservices‑based solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with engineering best practices.
- Develop and optimise complex database logic across MS SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL — including stored procedures, indexing strategies, query tuning, and execution plan analysis.
- Lead code and design reviews to uphold technical standards and continuously raise the quality bar across the codebase.
- Contribute to both high-level and low-level system design, producing artefacts such as sequence diagrams and class diagrams to support clear technical communication.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams to evaluate technical approaches and deliver the most effective solutions for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, sharing expertise and helping build a high-performing, technically capable team.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 6+ years of hands‑on software development experience, with deep expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and REST API design.
- Advanced proficiency in relational database technologies — MS SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL — covering schema design, query optimisation, stored procedures, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Solid understanding of object‑oriented design principles, producing modular, clean, and testable code across complex systems.
- Demonstrable experience designing and delivering microservices architectures, applying recognised patterns and best practices.
- Practical experience with Git‑based source control workflows and project tracking tools such as Jira within collaborative engineering teams.
- Grounding in systems analysis, architecture fundamentals, unit testing, and full software development lifecycle practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical decisions clearly to both engineering teams and non‑technical stakeholders.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working within Agile or Scrum delivery frameworks, contributing effectively to sprint‑based development cycles.
- Ability to produce and interpret high‑level system design artefacts — including sequence diagrams and class diagrams — to support architecture discussions.
- Demonstrated technology leadership in a previous role, with experience influencing technical standards or guiding delivery across a team.
What We Offer
- Hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, giving you flexibility alongside strong team collaboration.
- Global reach and impact, with the opportunity to collaborate with engineering and business teams across more than 100 countries.
- Continuous learning and development, with access to training, mentorship, and opportunities to deepen both technical and leadership skills.
- Clear pathways for career progression within a technology organisation that values engineering craft and rewards performance.
- Financial wellbeing support, including a competitive compensation package and access to Citi's broader employee benefits programme.
- Wellbeing and work‑life balance support through programmes designed to help you perform at your best inside and outside of work.
