About the Role

Athena Education is seeking a Community Intern to help manage and grow our Discord community, the Global Admissions Playbook, a space where students navigating college admissions connect, ask questions, and support one another. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for daily community engagement, from facilitating discussions to running competitions and masterclasses and identifying opportunities to expand the community.

This role is well suited to someone with prior experience on Discord or similar platforms who is interested in gaining hands-on exposure to community management and growth within an ed-tech environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive daily engagement across Discord channels, initiating discussions, responding to member questions, and posting a daily "admission insight" (drawing on our topic tracker, founder input, or member questions), with focus during peak hours
• Share Athena's content within the community by first initiating relevant discussion and posting in the most appropriate channel, tagging roles as needed
• Plan and drive weekly competitions: announcement copy, daily follow-ups (stepping up closer to the deadline)
• Lead growth and outreach: personalized invites to prospective members on other servers, engaging with relevant Reddit posts, and identifying and engaging promising prospects for Athena's core services
• Conduct and drive attendance for community events, both formal (Athena Masterclasses) and informal (engagement games run during peak evening hours), with a target of 50+ organic attendees per event and a minimum number of events hosted per month
• Track and report on community engagement metrics, flagging notable trends or concerns

Requirements

• Prior experience managing or actively participating in a Discord server or similar community platform is mandatory (Reddit experience a plus)
• Strong written communication skills with a warm, engaging tone
• Ability to independently manage recurring daily and weekly responsibilities
• Comfort with direct outreach and initiating conversations with new contacts
• Familiarity with the college admissions process is preferred but not required
• Working knowledge of Canva and screen recording tools (Optional)
• Familiarity with Discord bots and server tracking/analytics tools is a plus

Logistics

• Full-time, remote position with flexible hours; availability during peak engagement hours (8:00–11:00 PM IST) is required
• Paid stipend
• Reports to the Media team at Athena Education
