Responsibilities
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred nursing and social care that meets the individual needs of each resident.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, clinical guidelines, HIQA standards, and best practices within the nursing home.
- Monitor residents’ clinical conditions, including pressure sores, falls, and acute deterioration, ensuring appropriate assessment, documentation, and care plans are in place.
- Conduct comprehensive resident assessments and ensure care plans are regularly reviewed, updated, implemented, and evaluated.
- Identify and troubleshoot clinical and non-clinical issues, escalating concerns appropriately to the Director of Nursing.
- Supervise medication management, including safe administration, stock ordering, inventory control, medication reviews, and regular audits.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals regarding residents’ medication and clinical care.
- Provide visible, hands-on leadership and support to Staff Nurses and Care Assistants to maintain high standards of resident care.
- Support staff training, development, and performance appraisal in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
- Identify staff training needs and facilitate appropriate in-house training, including infection prevention and control, palliative care, and management of challenging behaviour.
- Conduct regular clinical, medication, infection control, environmental, health and safety, and hygiene audits, ensuring corrective action plans are implemented and sustained.
- Review new admissions to ensure appropriate assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation are completed to a high standard.
- Act as a key point of contact for residents, relatives, and visitors, promoting effective communication, person-centred care, and timely resolution of complaints.
- Assist the Director of Nursing with day-to-day management, including staff rosters, handovers, resident reviews, and clinical oversight, and provide cover during periods of absence.
- Promote a safe, supportive, and professional working environment by implementing health and safety policies, maintaining effective teamwork, and supporting continuous improvement in clinical practice.
Requirements
- BSc in General Nursing or equivalent qualification.
- Registered on the NMBI Live Register.
- Previous managerial training and/or experience (advantageous).
- Demonstrated excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proven sound clinical and managerial decision-making ability.
- Ability to motivate self and others and work effectively on own initiative.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively and promote a positive team environment.
