Position Description

The Occupational Health Nurse provides on-site emergency medical care, occupational health management, and proactive wellness support in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for administering acute clinical treatment, managing injury and illness cases from onset through return-to-work, and ensuring full compliance with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards. The ideal candidate combines Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) clinical expertise with strong interpersonal skills to deliver patient-centered care and foster a psychologically safe, hazard-aware workplace across a diverse workforce.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide immediate medical care for workplace injuries and illnesses, including first aid, CPR, wound care, and emergency stabilization.
• Coordinate emergency response and transportation to external medical facilities when required.
• Assess, document, and manage occupational injuries and illnesses, including return-to-work planning.
• Conduct health assessments and fitness-for-work evaluations.
• Liaise with healthcare providers, WCB, and external partners to support employee health services.
• Promote employee wellness, mental health, and psychological safety through education, awareness, and referral programs.
• Collaborate with EHS and HR teams on health, safety, and wellness initiatives.
• Participate in hazard assessments, risk analysis, and Joint Health & Safety Committee activities.
• Maintain first aid equipment, medical supplies, and confidential health records.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and company policies.
• Prepare health and safety reports, metrics, and program effectiveness data.

Required Education & Qualifications

Paramedic

• Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
• Experience working with diverse populations in high-pressure medical environments.
• Industrial or remote-site medical response experience is an asset.

Occupational Health Nurse

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Alberta.
• Current Advanced First Aid certification required.
• Occupational Health Nursing certification (or progress toward certification) is an asset.
• Emergency nursing and industrial occupational health experience preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong clinical assessment and emergency response capabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
• Knowledge of workplace hazards, risk mitigation, and injury management.
• Commitment to confidentiality and ethical medical practice.
