Position Summary

The CPA is a designated accounting professional responsible for complex accounting and tax engagements, technical problem-solving, client relationships, and the development of junior staff. The role requires a high degree of professional judgment, independence, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and complete compilation and other year-end engagements, including more complex accounting matters.
  • Prepare and review Canadian corporate (T2) and personal (T1) income tax returns and related filings.
  • Research and resolve accounting and tax issues and provide recommendations on matters requiring Manager or Partner consideration.
  • Assist with CRA reviews, correspondence, reassessments, and other tax matters.
  • Manage engagement timelines, budgets, outstanding information, and client expectations.
  • Act as a primary contact for assigned clients and provide clear explanations of accounting and tax matters.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities, client concerns, and matters requiring further advisory involvement.
  • Review or provide technical guidance on work completed by Articling Students and junior staff.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members and contribute to Firm training and process improvements.
  • Ensure engagements meet Firm and applicable professional standards before final review.

Qualifications

  • Relevant public accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards applicable to private enterprises and compilation engagements.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal taxation.
  • Experience with Caseware, TaxPrep, and other accounting and tax software.

The CPA is expected to independently manage complex engagements, exercise sound professional judgment, anticipate and resolve issues, provide effective guidance to junior staff, and bring significant risks, opportunities, and recommendations to Managers or Partners.

Professional Standards

The CPA must maintain their designation in good standing and comply with applicable CPA professional and ethical requirements, Firm policies, and quality-management standards.
