Job Title: RECAP Clinical Research Nurse Programme Coordinator
Department: RCSI Clinical Research Centre (CRC), Beaumont Hospital Campus.
Reporting to: PI Dr Doug Mulholand, CRC Director of Nursing and CRC Director
Location: RCSI Clinical Research Centre (CRC), Beaumont Hospital Campus.
Contract/Duration: Specified Purpose - 2.5 years – Full time
Remuneration: Up to CNM3 scale

Summary of Post
We now seek a Senior Clinical Research Nurse, CNM3 level, to join the team in the RCSI Clinical Research Centre (CRC) based at Beaumont Hospital to coordinate the day-to-day project management of the “RECAP - Resorbable Embolization for Chronic musculoskeletal Pain” DTIF Consortium project for both the CrannMed and Salaso Clinical studies. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who can demonstrate a keen interest in the role of a senior clinical research nurse to become a key member of a dynamic research team in an innovative and progressive research environment.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
- Coordinate and manage the RECAP clinical research projects assigned, as part of the wider RECAP DTIF consortium project in adherence with the research protocols and associated study standard operating procedures including:
- Working as the local site liaison with Galway Institute for Clinical Trials in the preparation of regulatory and ethics documentation and local hospital and institution contracting documents during the set-up phase of the studies
- Ensuring that all hospital, CRC and RCSI governance procedures and approvals have been adhered to and are in place prior to the commencement of all research projects
- Be responsible for keeping the RECAP clinical research projects on track in accordance with the work package requirements.
- Assisting with reporting to EI as per grant T&Cs including grant reporting and staff timesheets
- Managing study budgets and supporting the PI in funding and budgeting queries from finance department(s).
- Attending consortium meetings as required (some travel may be required)
- Co-ordination of recruitment and management of other nursing team members when appointed
- Carrying out chart review, screening and recruitment of study participants during the recruitment phases of the studies
- Coordinating and scheduling of study visits and follow up visits, preforming study procedures, data collection and data entry, safety information reporting and organising access to step-down facilities, if required, during the treatment and follow-up phases of the studies
- Communicating with the study sponsor and wider research team for the duration of the studies
- Being competent in the clinical duties delegated for the purpose of the study and undertaking all study specific training
- Where relevant, ensuring that the processing and storage of biological samples meets the necessary requirements of the research protocols in order to make certain that safe handling and quality is assured
- Providing nursing knowledge, expertise and care to patients participating in research studies assigned
- Ensuring patient confidentiality and dignity is assured and maintained at all times during the clinical trials
- Adhering to data protection legislation and following procedures to ensure confidentiality of the data collected for the project
- Adhering to International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and the applicable regulations
- Assisting the Principal Investigator(s) in delivering study training to other members of the research team or relevant ward staff when applicable, including new team members
- Ensuring effective communication and liaison with other research staff within the department and the hospital
- Playing an active role in driving and promoting assigned clinical research projects
- Taking responsibility for establishing and maintaining clinical research governance documentation, including: site files, case record forms and applicable source data documents
- Adhering to the standard operating procedures and policies for Beaumont Hospital, the Clinical Research Centre and RCSI
- Participating in CRC safety, management and quality assurance activities as assigned
- Carrying out other duties as appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the PI’s, CRC Director or CRC Director of Nursing
- Maintaining professional registration
- Undertaking further education as appropriate to keep updated with changes within the field of your assigned research project/s
- Taking responsibility for own professional and competency development, including maintaining a record of training, continuing education and continuing professional development
- Attending and participating in:
- In service and staff education
- Mandatory CRC and RCSI training
- Mandatory updating of clinical skills e.g. BLS
- Appropriate outside conferences and/or other professional development activities
- Investigator meetings and / or study specific training for assigned studies
Quality Assurance
- Adhering to the CRC quality management system
- Adhering to the CRC SOPs
- Recording study activity tasks on the CRC study manager weekly.
- Maintaining clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.
Qualifications – (Essential):
- Successfully completed bachelor’s degree level or above nursing education
- 8 years’ post-registration experience, with at least 3 years of independent research experience running clinical trials or similar large research projects
- Must be registered with an appropriate division of The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland
- Proven recent clinical skills
- Good organisational, analytical / problem solving and project management skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- The ability to work in a safe manner independently under self-direction
- Interpersonal skills required to integrate as part of a diverse research team
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and internet and email systems
- Be willing and able to learn new skills and have the flexibility to adapt to the needs of different clinical research projects as required by the position
- Experience in healthcare data collection
- Excellent knowledge of the process for consenting for healthcare research
- Experience of Interventional Radiology Nursing or Trials or Medical Device Trials
- Knowledge of research approval processes
- Knowledge of International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
- Knowledge of the governance and legislative requirements surrounding the conduct of clinical research in Ireland
- Experience in phlebotomy and research sample handling
