English Teacher for Children and Teenagers - Buenos Aires

Vamos Academy

Buenos AiresFull-timeMid LevelOn-site

Job Description

Teaching English to a nine year old at half past five, after they have already done a full school day, is a different craft from teaching adults. If you are good at it you already know that, and you have probably been underpaid for it.

We are hiring an English teacher for children and teenagers in Buenos Aires, in person at our campus at Maipú 464 and in family groups.

What you would actually do

  • Teach English to children and teenagers, in small groups and one to one, in the afternoon and early evening.
  • Run a class that moves. Games, tasks, movement, competition, short cycles, because attention at that age is earned every ten minutes rather than granted once.
  • Prepare teenagers for the Cambridge exams where that is what the family wants, without turning the class into a drill.
  • Teach the families who study together on our kids and family courses, where a parent and a child are in the same room at different levels.
  • Talk to parents. Short, clear, honest updates about what their child can now do. This is half the job and the half most teachers neglect.

What we look for

  • English at C1 or above, native or not.
  • Real experience with children or teenagers: a school, an institute, a summer camp, a scout group, a football team. We care that you have held a room of eleven year olds, not where you did it.
  • A profesorado, TEFL, CELTA, TESOL or the young learners extension to any of them. A young learners specialism moves you up the list.
  • Patience that survives the third interruption, and enough authority that there is not a fourth.
  • The right to work in Argentina, and the documentation Argentina requires of people who work with minors, including a criminal record certificate.

A real advantage: experience with special educational needs, with very young learners under seven, or with the Cambridge Young Learners exams.

Hours and pay

Afternoons and early evenings during the school year, since that is when children are free, plus holiday courses in the summer. Paid per class hour, monthly. Concrete numbers at the interview, before any commitment.

About Vamos Academy

Vamos Academy has been teaching in Buenos Aires since 2004 and in Málaga since 2023, plus online and in companies. Our students rate us 4.9 out of 5 across 1,187 Google reviews and we hold a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award for 2025. Families come back to us year after year, which is the only review that counts in this part of the school.

Questions we get asked

Do I need to speak Spanish?
For the youngest children it genuinely helps, and for the parents it helps more. For teenagers you can run an English only classroom from day one.

Can I combine this with adult classes?
Yes, and most teachers here do. Kids classes fill the afternoon, adults fill the morning and the evening.

I have never taught children, only adults.
Then say so honestly and tell us why you want to. We would rather train somebody who wants this than inherit somebody who took it because the hours were free.
