Summary of Role

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for:

  • Primarily responsible for assisting month-end process working closely with the Finance Team
  • Contributing towards SDI Strategic Priorities.
  • Conducting work in a safe manner, adhering to quality compliance requirements and demonstrating a strong commitment to SDI's values of passion, accountability, respect, teamwork, and innovation.

Specific Responsibilites

  • Assist with processing credit cards transactions and employee expense claims in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Assist in processing stock adjustments and stock transfers for all entities, including responding to stock adjustment/transfer queries
  • Support petty cash disbursement in multiples currencies
  • Assist in customer collections and payment allocations
  • Support scheduled stocktakes, cycle counts and inventory controls
  • Provide back up support for Accounts Payable functions
  • Assist in month-end accounting processes, including preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and end of month reports
  • Support the review, reconciliation, and clearing of GR/IR balances
  • Assist with resolving accounting and transactional issues
  • Provide back-up support in preparing the daily Cash Position Report
  • Assist with audit queries and information requests from auditors/other internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with providing information and supporting documentation for insurance claims and renewals
  • Switchboard relief (when required).
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Other activities as requested by Company Management.
  • Assist other ad hoc financial responsibilities and general administrative tasks as required

Job Environment

  • The position is located at Bayswater
  • Working hours: 38-hour week paid monthly

Education Level

Bachelor's Degree

Essential Experience

  • Working towards CA/CPA
  • Tertiary qualified in Accounting or relevant discipline
  • Natural process improver and thrive on effecting change within a business
  • Experience with computer software accounting packages, including Microsoft Office, SAP (or similar ERP system) is beneficial
  • Good understanding of accounting concepts

Knowledge and skills

  • Strong organisational, communication & time management skills
  • Working knowledge of general accounting procedures
  • Aware of SDI's current Quality policy and objectives
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Office suite of products in particular Excel, Word & PowerPoint

Personal Qualities

  • Strong numeracy skills and understanding of accounting concepts
  • Strong organisational skills including the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks for optimum productivity a
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred
